Deux imbeciles heureux 1973 France
director: Edmond Freess
stars: Jean-Roger Caussimon, Guillaume le Vacher

Story: A boy feels alienated from his parents, runs away to the coutryside, and hooks up with a man who is on the run from the police. They help each other elude the searchers, and learn to trust each other. At the end, when they part, we see how fond they have become of each other.

The boy, Bruno, is played by Guillaume le Vacher (no other credits found). About 11 years old; light brown mop-top hair; gap in teeth; cute. For most of the movie he wears a pair of shorts...mid-thigh length, but quite tight. (See the last pic, below.) Nice rear end. I like the personality of the character. Some bare chest and close-up naked underarm shots early in the movie.

As a final treat, a skinny-dipping scene with full-frontal nudity. Guillaume seems unconcerned that the man is watching him naked (or that we are, for that matter).

[The part between these two pics not posted out of propriety for this site...]

Hosenhaus, you do a real nice review! Smiley

Thanks, once again!

Everytime you do one, I immediately want that movie. This one is my favorite type of movie, of course, and young Guillaume looks like a 'real boy', complete with the gap in the teeth! I wanted to see it before you even mentioned that skinny-dipping scene... Wink

Love,
Sir Jacob

I thought I'd just bump this thread back to the top.

I've started to slowly weave my way thru the threads in this forum starting at the rear end.... page 15.. in order to restore some missing pics from threads that contain what look like useful reviews or discussions. It's too big a job to restore all the threads... that's why some will be deleted if they contain very little text.

I have deleted a few threads that were not really reviews and mainly consisted of a number of little red 'x' boxes, or were completely off topic with little on no relevance today.

I've also started to re-link the threads to the database profiles.

If any of you still have pics that you used for some of the threads, you are welcome to restore them.

I'd also like to thank the many contributors who have spent a lot of time writing reviews... some of which have few or no responses.

... most likely because it's difficult for people to respond to dozens of reviews about films they have not seen.

Knowing absolutely nothing of the French language, I'll lend my help. (Remember what happened the last time I tried that!)

Deux: Two
imbeciles: foolish
heureux: heroes

Two foolish heroes

Now is there anybody that has a correct translation?

Well, to be literal, "imbeciles" is the noun and "heureux" is the adjective. So it is something like "Two cheerful idiots". But I think " imbeciles heureux" is a common phrase not meaning what it literally says.

the phrase "imbécile heureux" (happy idiot) is more or less related to the saying that ignorance is bliss. Someone who is an "imbécile heureux" is someone who lives in fool's paradise, who is blissfully ignorant. In other words, someone who is ignorant, but who couldn't care less, who is satisfied with that state of being because he doesn't know any better.

I'll tellya, I couldn't find it, after an exhausting Sunday afternoon of searching last week. I'm not sure that it's still available anywhere. Undecided

Such a charming movie. But as far as I know never released on DVD. I merely rented it on VHS back then, 14 years ago.

btw, nice images, thanks!

I will see if I can locate a VHS copy. Funny thing,
I have been doing a lot of work in our VHS (analog)
suite lately. For some reason, I love working with tape.

This is so rarely shown on tv, and it was nice to see it again. If only some of the other networks could appreciate some of these classics.
