Speaking of Christian Bale and Empire of the Sun -- that song sung   near the beginning of the film by a boy's choir (then later sung by Christian Bale -- supposedly-- at the prison camp?) does anyone have an english-translation of the lyrics?  I've always wondered what the words were.

The instrumental from that movie, where Jim goes back to his empty house and runs around -- I've heard that played on a couple of Christmas specials.

I have the Empire of the Sun soundtrack, a couple Billy Gilman CD's, and I'm certainly going to look into Anthony Way, but that's about it...couldn't come up with a top ten, sorry!  (ok, ok, conscience!!!  A couple old Jackson 5 records, too!  Geez!)

Here's the English translation to the song "Suo Gan".  It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Smiley

It's a Welsh traditional, from sometime around the year 1800.

I think the lyrics of Suo Gan sound better in Welsh...  not knowing the translation seems to make the song more appealing.

I doubt I'd like the song sung in English.

Sorry, Cal if that inquiry ruins the song for you!

Anyone know off-hand if Suo Gan (in English) is sung by a boy on any record/tape?  Wouldn't you love to see a Billy Gilman video, singing it in both languages, interacting with perhaps a much-younger brother, putting him to bed? (does that help, Cal?)
