Again, I was sure that a review of this movie existed here; but in any event this one is going to be short.  Beautiful, magical,. Insightful, meaningful, heart-rending.  It’s a rare thing when all the elements of a movie seem to speak with one voice.  Pather Panchali was like that.  This is another.

For heaven’s sake,  if you haven’t seen it and can get it,  see it!  It is a truly rewarding experience.

I'm pleased that you got to see this one YA. There is a lot of interesting discussion on IMBd about the ending of the movie.

Thanks Cal.  I missed that thread on their forum discussing the ending. It is, of course, loaded with spoilers for those who have yet to see this amazing film. Most of the comments pretty much confirmed my own interpretation of the ending.  I won't say more about my take on that - except to say that the last bird calls on the soundtrack suggest what has happened.

This movie, especially the incredible performance of the boy, is still haunting me.

A most excellent film!  Heartbreaking story but exceptionally well done.  Highly recommended!
