Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin and Alex Etel (Millions) are jumping on The Water Horse,
the Jay Russell-directed co-production based on the Dick King Smith novel.

The picture tells the story of a lonely boy in Scotland (Etel) who finds
a mysterious egg on the shore of a lake. When the egg hatches, what emerges
is a "water horse," a mythical sea monster of Scottish legend.

Walden Media, Beacon Pictures and Revolution Studios are teaming to
produce the project. Robert Nelson Jacobs will write the live-action/CGI
movie and Jay Russell will direct. Production is expected to begin in
May in New Zealand. Producing are Robert Bernstein, Douglas Rae, Barrie
Osborne and Charlie Lyons. The special effects will be done by Weta
Digital and Weta Workshop.

Well, I just saw the preview for this movie at the cinema (I only now went to see Harry Potter 5) and it actually looks decent... or at least Alex does!  I didn't notice when the preview said it would be released, but IMDB says it's being released on Christmas Day 2007... so much for September 28th (maybe you jinxed it by saying "subject to change").

this little guy is in the BBC's version of Cranford being aired at the moment in uk. He plays the son of a poor man who is befriended by a middle class gent in Cranford. The series is wonderful anyway but Alex popping up every now and again makes it doubly enjoyable.  Alex as a myspace page and if you google waterhorse you get an excellent website with pics etc.

George!  Nice to see you here.  Smiley
I've only seen Alex in 'Millions' so I'm looking forward to seeing his other work. Hopefully Cranford will air here on the ABC or the UKTV channel. I'll keep an eye out for it. If they expect good ratings for it, it won't air until the ratings season starts in Feb. I hope I remember.

It's certainly out by now... anyone actually SEEN it yet?  (it's not even listed in the Movie Database, as far as I can tell)

Not released here until Christmas day Swede, but here is the IMDB listing  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

They have a few links to some external reviews. I read the Variety review which stated the quality was high but they weren't sure
how the box office would go. The film was compared to a Carroll Ballard kind of film (Duma, Black Stallion) both for the quality and the
potentially suspect box office returns.

So it is... so it is... released on Christmas Day, that is!  Wow.  I was at the "Dollar Theater" ($ Theatre?) yesterday watching "Martian Child" and saw a preview for The Waterhorse... rare that the Dollar Theater should show a movie preview for something yet unreleased, so I didn't even think to double check.  Besides, the original release date was in the fall (or is that autumn?).  Something to still look forward to I guess.

Well, I was finally able to see this movie, and while it wasn't spectacular, Alex was!  I really enjoyed watching "Millions" too... this kid has a promising future, if only he can get some more big roles!

My movie watching is a little backed up right now. The Waterhorse and The Martian Child are both high on my list of things to see though.....

Watched it yesterday.

I pretty much liked it. Alex is a very pleasant lad in his entire appearance, he has a certain stage presence which I personally find quite captivating. His acting is genuine, he is good in handling emotional scenes. There is a certain sparkle in his smile that I like.

The story was okay, family-style movie. Definitely worth a look.
