Anthony Minghella will be writing and directing "The Ninth Life of Louis Drax" for Miramax, according to Variety.

Due for publication through Bloomsbury in June in the U.K. and in January in the U.S., the novel is a surreal psychological thriller about an accident-prone 9-year-old problem child lying in a deep coma and the doctor who cares for him.

"Sydney and I were delighted that our partners at Miramax moved so quickly and effectively to acquire the rights to this tremendous material for us," Minghella said.

"Liz Jensen has crafted a taut psychological thriller that provides the ideal framework for a riveting motion picture," said Weinstein. "Miramax has a longstanding relationship with Anthony and Mirage, and 'The Ninth Life of Louis Drax' offers the perfect source material for our continued collaboration."

Project is being assembled under Miramax's three-year, first-look production deal with Minghella and Sydney Pollack's Mirage Enterprises, signed in December to formalize the two companies' fruitful association.

BBC Radio 4’s prestigious ‘Book at Bedtime’ has selected Jordan Waller, a Year 7 pupil at Bristol Grammar School, to play the title role in a forthcoming serial to be broadcast nationally this June.

Jordan Waller, aged 11, who auditioned along with twenty other boys to secure the role, will star as Louis in ‘The Ninth Life of Louis Drax’, a novel by Liz Jensen.

Jordan, along with the ‘Book at Bedtime’ producer Sara Davies, will be interviewed by Keith Warmington of BBC Radio Bristol about the project on Thursday 13 May, and again the following week when Jordan has completed recording his part.

Jordan was nominated for the audition by Bristol Grammar School’s Director of Drama, Guy Martin, who says,

‘Jordan is an amazingly lively and talented actor. He really deserves this opportunity and I am very proud – well done Jordan!’

‘The Ninth Life of Louis Drax’ is scheduled to be broadcast on Radio 4 over 10 episodes, starting Monday 21 June at 10.45pm.

Hey, thanks for mentioning this one apple!  Sorry I was out of town and didn't get to respond until now.

Here's that pic of Jordan from the Bristol Grammar School link that you provided:

Thanks apple..

When I see a boy with long hair these days, I immediately think, 'There's an individual that doesn't follow the herd'. Jordan looks like a lovely kid but I think he'll be too old to play the role in the movie. Still, I hope the role goes to a Brit kid. I think I may buy the book...  I enjoyed the extract on the web site.

Bad news for Jordan Waller fans...this film is still listed as in pre-production. Now looking at filming in 2008!  Angry

I guess an 11-year-old was to young to play the 9-year-old.  Have to wait until he is 12 or 13, right?

I read the book, then rented the movie.  Recommended order.  The movie follows the book pretty well, but also contains inexplicable changes.

Anyway, the boy in the movie is Aiden Longworth

(those other boys I posted before have very minor parts)
