Whoa. I guess I've seen him in The Hunger and Forever Young. Don't remember him in either, though.

I saw James Aubrey in "The Choir", but my focus was squarely on Anthony Way in that wonderful series.

My missing choices....

1965 Edward Albert in The Fool Killer
1964 Didier Haudepin
1963 Luke Halpin in Flipper (as heretical as it may seem, I didn't particularly like the original Lord of the Flies, perhaps I should rewatch now that it's on DVD)

1962  Kolya Burlyayev in My Name is Ivan or Ivan's Childhood or Ivanovo detstvo or whatever it's called in your country .  Tongue
I would also give special mention to Sean Scully for his work in Almost Angels and most especially The Prince and the Pauper.

What do you have for 1961?
I don't seem to remember any of these:

The Innocents, Martin Stephens
The Island, Japan
Misty, David Ladd
A Summer to Remember (Seryozha), Russia

1961 would be Martin Stephens hands down in The Innocents...(although I have Summer to Remember in my 1960 choices....)

Well, definitely no argument for the 1965 pick, Diego Puente in  "Cronica de un Nino Solo".  In fact, it could easily be the best of the decade, (all things considered).

For 1964, it's difficult to choose one better than Didier Haupin's great film.... however there is a nice short film (26 minutes) from the Czech Republic that is definitely a challenge to the throne, "Dobrodruzstvi S Nahym Klukem" (Adventure With A Naked Boy), although it's impossible to remember or spell his name.   Another very nice film from Russia in 1964 is "Armiya Tryosoguzki"  starring Viktor Kholmogorov, which is a favorite in the dvd collection.  And of course another favorite from 1964, is "Tini zabutykh predkiv"  (Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors), starring a very young Dzyurha.

Definitely L.O.T.F. for 1963.  Yet, just a bit of personal affection for a local film, "Bébert et L'Omnibus" with Martin Lartigue.

Oddly enough, just watched the 1962 favorite on Tuesday evening.... "Ivanovo Detstvo".   But unfortunately, it cannot top "La Guerre Des Boutons", again with Lartigue.

1961, well personally it isn't possible to go with Martin Stephens in "The Innocents".  It's a great job of acting, granted.  But how can it possibly outshine Vova Semyonov in "Nakhelenok" ?!?!?  This is one of the best motion pictures starring a boy ever made, and is absolutely unforgettable, hence receives at least one vote for best actor and film of 1961!

And now for the film that is next up on the list, (1960)..... are there any better films than Boris Barkhatov in "Seryozha" (A Summer to Remember)?  Very touching drama.

I would love to comment on your choices nicolas, but I've never even heard of some of them, much less viewed them!  Shocked

I have seen Boris Barkhatov in A Summer to Remember and he was great, but to be contrarian I will go with Laci Tóth in Légy jó mindhalálig
edging out Borya and David Ladd in Raymie.

This brings us down to 1959 and Jean-Pierre Léaud for Les Quatre cents coups.

------------------------------------------------------------
For anyone curious here is a plot summary I was able to dig up for Nakhalenok aka Saucy Young Kipper.....

Foma Korshunov returns to his village and makes friends with 7-year-old Mishka. When bandits rush into the village and kill Foma, Mishka saddles a horse and tries to warn Red Army soldiers about the danger.

I might be out of order in my year but I just remembered a great performance by a Russian boy actor in the 1983 film "Detskiy sad" (aka Kindergarten). The tape I saw has English subtitles.
It stars 11 or 12 year old Sergei Gusak as Zhenia, a refugee from the Germans as they advance on Moscow in World War II.

"A spacious and exuberant film-poem from director/writer Yevgeny Yevtushenko tells the semi-autobiographical tale of a young boy tramping across Russia during World War II with his trusty violin."

Someday, when I have enough time to find my old VHS tape of this movie, I will make caps and post them.

Not fair, Zab.  You are getting all the easy years!

How can a film compare with Les Quatre Cents Coups for 1959.

1958 is a toss-up, and both dvds are in the collection and often viewed!  And it's impossible to pick one above the other.

DRUZHOK  with Victor Koval and Marina Ordanskaya (the better actor of the two)

DVA FYODORA  (Two Fedors)  starring Nikolai Chursin

Because the film clarity and quality of Dva Fyodora isn't as good, perhaps Druzhok is a better choice overall.

Catching up:

1962: Ivan's Childhood (definitely no contest for me).

1961: I guess I'll go with The Innocents. It's the only film on my list from that year, but I don't remember it very well.

1960: I haven't seen much this year. All I have on my list is Peeping Tom, and that's a very minor role.

1959: Obvious choice: Jean-Pierre Léaud in 400 Coups

1958: David Ladd in The Proud Rebel. This is again the only movie on my list.

I don't have anything else on my list until 1955.

True, but I do offer an opinion on all years.

1958 Not being or understanding any Russian, I have to opt for David Ladd in The Proud Rebel over Paul Petersen in Houseboat. I really would like to see Dva Fyodora however...

1957 Rex Thompson in All Mine to Give over Colin Petersen in The Scamp.

This puts us at 1956 where I would choose Kevin Coughlin in Storm Center over Jon Whiteley in The Spanish Gardener.
