Some of you may be familiar with John Holmstom's mighty and wonderful book, The Moving Picture Encyclopedia. Paul Sutton is pleased to announce that he's produced a lovely big picture book from Holmstom's collection of stills, posters, clippings and letters.

Should be quite interesting though at £50 the book's rather expensive I think.

There are three that I'm not sure of.  May need a little help.
But here goes:

1) Empire of the Sun (1987)
2) Lord of the Flies (1963) James Aubrey, as Ralph
3) The Red Head (1932) Robert Lynen, as François
4) This Special Friendship (1964) Didier Haudepin, as Alexandre
5) ??? My best guess:  Het mes (1961)
6) A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) Mickey Rooney, as Puck
7) ??? My best guess:  White Mane (1953) Alain Emery, as Folco
8) ??? My best guess:  Frun tillhanda (1939) Kaj Hjelm, as Nisse
9) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

I'll keep thinking about those three, ??? (not confirmed)

Huh

Number three is perhaps better known as Poil de Carotte (1932)

The three you haven't identified don't appear to be included in full in the book itself... The blue one looks familiar, but I'm pretty sure it's not Het Mes.

To spark Cinefan's interest, not only are there two pictures of Didier Haudepin in the book (the complete one from This Special Friendship, and also one from Los Pianos Mechanics), there's also a copy of a letter from Didier to John Holmstrom.

Yes, it's a very cool book!  The letters and correspondence are some of the most interesting!

Didier Haudepin is referenced no less than seven times in the book and appears on the cover!

The three that haven't been identified, as far as I can tell, those images do not appear in the book.
But I'm thinking that all three actors are featured in the book in a different picture, poster, or letter.

A most fascinating book.  I have already began searching for (and located) films that I have never
seen.

A most fascinating book, indeed.

I've contacted the author about the cover images we couldn't identify. His response is as follows:

Your answers to the 'cover' question are quite correct.
The missing ones are:

5. Edvinas Menčikovas in Andrius, which is featured inside.
7. Claude Jarman Jr. in The Yearling.
8. Fredrik Becklén in Hugo and Josephine (one of my very favourite films. It features heavily too in the girl book).

He also wrote:
The companion volume of girls should be ready in about a month, and out a month or so later. It's the same format and size and the boy book but, because Holmstrom didn't finish his work on sourcing and resourcing a girl encyclopedia, it's a lot thinner. It's probably about 220 pages, and a lot cheaper too, but still fun.
