My choice is Michael Nirenberg, who all but disappeared after Searching for Bobby Fischer. For a long time there was a rumor going around the internet that he died in 1996. Heard some people debunking it, but don't know if it's true or not.

I recall at the time they said they got a chess player and taught him acting, which was easier than getting an actor and teaching him to be convincing when playing chess.  So maybe afterward he just continued as a chess player...

Are you sure you're not thinking of the lead, Max Pomeranc? I know he was one of the top rated chess players in the country for his age group when he was cast.

Yes, I remember Michael Nirenberg very well in that great film 'Innocent Moves' as it was called in the UK. I know Max Pomeranc was a chess player but I don't know about Nirenberg but then whether he could play chess or not wouldn't be important. It was only an acting part and the chess game would be scripted anyway. I know some chess buffs who had looked at the position of the pieces said Nirenberg could've won.
I'm somehow attracted to boy actors who play the 'baddie' parts like MacCaulay Culkin in 'The Good Son'.     Wink

Interesting. I didn't know it was called "Innocent Moves" in the UK. Is that because Bobby Fischer isn't so well known there? I agree with you about boy actors playing the baddie parts. The Good Son is one of my favorite films from the 90s and very under appreciated. Elijah Wood and Mac were great. I think the reason it bombed at the box office was that most audiences weren't expecting to see Mac in such a role. The alternative US poster (the evil eye) is one my favorites. It's too bad they didn't use it instead of the simple headshot.

Hmmm ... perhaps we should start a new thread for boy actor villains (if there isn't one already). Jonathan Scott-Taylor in Omen II immediately comes to mind.

I haven't heard of this film, but just watched the trailer on YouTube. Thanks for the recommendation. I put it on my Must Watch list. Smiley

Another one-hit wonder to remember - mentioned by bowser earlier in this thread: Greg Hodges in "The Double McGuffin". And for those who haven't seen it - and have been put off hitherto by the ridiculous price of the DVD - it is now available as an extra on the multi-format version (Blu-ray+DVD+Digital) of "For the Love of Benji" (currently retailing at about 10 dollars). I've added a note to the movie's profile page to indicate this, and also an Amazon link to the Amazon product page in case anyone's interested. (Buyers outside US/Canada will require multi-region players.)

Seeing any films produced before circa 1990 always makes me nostalgic...

Here are some caps of Hodges from the DVD:

I love 70's era haircuts. They just seem to cut around the edges and they're done.   Cheesy

The black boy in the group/gang, is none other than the son of Charlie Pride, the Country/Western singer. That if my memory serves me well.

Thanks for the information!  A little online research confirmed that he is indeed the son of Charley Pride, and I also managed to uncover one or two other little snippets of information about him. I've created a profile page for him:

For sheer obscurity and the boy actor to test any buff's knowledge and who, incidentally, beat even the great bowser is this boy. Can anyone guess who he is and the name of the film in which he briefly appears?
