I, too really like this show.  I am particularly interested in getting information on the 3 original Tony-Winning Billys on Broadway --- David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish.  I understand that Kiril was one of the professional dancers on Dancing With The Stars last year, and that Trent is a student at Princeton, but I can't find anything on David (who, in my opinion, was the best Billy I've ever seen}, except for an article stating that he had spent 2 years in the Army, and subsequently returned to Broadway as a "swing" in On The Town.  Does anyone have any more recent information?

I have many pictures of the original Broadway Billy's, so I thought I'd share a few.  If anyone is interested, I'll post others.  Most of these are from articles, and the last 5 are from a TV interview that the 3 boys gave.

I just wanted to ad a few pictures of the boys' acceptance speech upon receiving their Tony Awards.  I think it was the best acceptance speech I've ever seen at the awards -- totally genuine and unassuming.  You can find it on YouTube if you are interested.

caps from the DVD have been placed in the BETM gallery.

Has anyone here seen the show performed live?
What did you think?

The cinema only has ONE Billy Elliott (Jamie Bell) whereas the theatre has many. It has certainly given a lot of great dancing boys a chance to air their talents. These are some of the boys who have played Billy Elliott in Britain and abroad. Anyone got a favourite?:

Zabladowski: I have seen it performed twice in London the first time with Liam Mower as Billy Elliott. They were very good performances from the boys though, shamefully, I cannot remember who the boy was that I saw on stage the second time. A friend and I were fortunate to spot Stephen Daldry a few rows in front and got him to sign our programmes.   Smiley

How fortunate you were to have seen Liam Mower in the role. He seemed to be the standard by which all other Billy's were measured.

I was fortunate enough to see two performances of the show as it traveled about the US.  I found the show to be really great, though both of the boys playing Billy were about to age out of the roll and were too tall for the part.  I have also collected many clips of boys doing various numbers from the show, and have been able to compare different approaches.  I am not a fan of the "street Billy" performances of the "Electricity" number, though I can see the talent of all the boys I've been able to witness in the role.
I was lucky enough to obtain bootleg copies of full performances of all three original Broadway Billies, and I must say that I think those three boys --- David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish, and Trent Kowalik are the best I've ever witnessed.  Yes, I have seen many clips of Liam Mower, who was wonderful, but in my opinion, the very best Billy I've ever seen from both the dancing and acting perspectives was David Alvarez.  He brought an intensity to the part far surpassing any other actor I've witnessed, and his dancing was unsurpassed.  His singing left something to be desired, but he made up for it with the passion and interpretation he brought to his delivery of the songs -- particularly "Electricity".

Haven't got to see the show live at the theatre,
but the BD is awesome!

Fantastic performance by Elliott Hanna!

Bowser,  I agree they did a very good job with the BD.  However, when they showed it on PBS, they "cleaned up" the language by bleeping all the cuss words the boys said.  This sort of took the heart and flavor out of the performance, but since I was very familiar with all the original dialog, I was still able to enjoy the show.

By the way, if anyone is interested, on YouTube they have numerous clips of the Hungarian production of the musical.  It is interesting to see how they completely changed the musical.  It's almost like seeing a different show with the same songs.  They particularly destroyed the "Expressing Yourself" number, having Billy and Michael dressing up as clowns rather than cross-dressing.  It is pretty well-done, but I prefer the original.

I will definitely check out the Hungarian production clips

Thanks!
