That's 'Cyrano de Bergerac' the great 1990 film starring Gerard Depardieu.  Amazon shows a UK DVD version available but not US.

Anyway, I watched my tape again last night because I happened to think of the lovely French boy who appeared in it briefly, as the boy who idolized Cyrano.

I did a double take..!  Why  that's Julien Caimaca!  I went to the cast list at the end.  Nope.  Its a boy named Anatole Delalande.  I didn't think another boy in France could have eyes and a mouth like that.  But he's every bit as beautiful as Julien Smiley  The resemblance is uncanny.

It looks like the only movie he appeared in, to date. Damn!  I searched the web in vain for a pic of Anatole.

Anyone have one?

That IS a great film, YoungArthur. I've always loved Rostand's play and felt that film version was very faithful to the spirit of the original. This is on my mental "must buy" list whenever it does hit DVD in Region 1 (which I feel is inevitable).

I must be getting old, because I cannot remember the boy you mention! Now I want to see this movie again even more! Thanks for bringing it to mind.

YoungArthur,

Here are a few captures, my liege, from the VHS Sad of the 1990 'Cyrano de Bergerac', with my apologies for the quality -- I hope they will do until someone makes a set of DVD caps from this movie.

Rise, Sir Editor, he he.  Thank you!  You guys are incredible;  ask and ye shall receive.

Isn't he a little beauty?

(You brought to mind a cartoon I saw once where Arthur says, frowning at the round table, "Ok, where's the head of the table?")

He's a good looker for sure. Does he have a decent part or is he just a bit of casual decoration?

I can't believe I haven't seen this movie..  bummer.   I like Gérard Depardieu too, he does good work.

This is an excellent film, but Anatole is the main thing I remember from it, especially his last scene.  He wore a white night shirt and his cute bare legs were exposed.
This was still early on in the move and I was disappointed that he made no further appearances.

Hi, Wildeboy.  I'm with you.  He looked so darned cute in the bakery scene, and when Cyrano ruffled his hair Smiley

(I couldn't see his legs too well in that nightie scene, despite all my fiddling with brightness & contrast!)

I've only seen it on the big screen and that ten years ago.  Too bad the legs don't come thru so well on the tube.  It was just a brief shot but very memorable!

Can't see the pictures now, funster.... but thanks for bumping this thread.

Cyrano de Bergerac is rated so highly among stories, but it can really get on a person's nerves.  It's like a mélange of Pinnochio and a love story.  Better yet.... "Pinnochio & Juliet".

It would be nice to see these pictures of young Delalande.
