Set in America's rural South in the 1960s, a young boy (John John) and a mentally challenged woman set out to build an airplane to flee the boys' abusive father.

_________

This independent film hasn't had any publicity of note and I'd never heard of it before seeing it.

Similar in many ways to the movie 'Radio Flyer'.

The movie begins with the adult John John returning to the town of his childhood, to attend the funeral of his estranged  father. He is accompanied by his young son and it is apparent that there is a lack of affection between the two.

We are then taken back in time to John John's childhood when he  was ten years old,  which focuses on the often abusive relationship he had with his redneck father.  His main friend Zeola, is a mentally challanged woman and together they decide to make a plane so he can fly away from his abusive father.

One day he befriends a rich 12 year old boy who is spending the Summer in the area.  His new friend causes a rift in John John's friendship with Zeola.....

Christian Craft in his first movie role plays John John as a boy. He a gorgeous looking blond headed kid and he can act.  He deserves to be seen again and again.

Movie Rating  8/10
Boy Movie Rating  10/10

Thanks, Cal.  I haven't seen this movie yet, but I've been watching for it.  Does John John have a genuine Southern accent?

I acquired a set of captures from this movie somewhere.  I'd give credit to the person who created them if I could remember who it was.

This movie has been scheduled to air on the Lifetime Movie Network (in the US) on May 31st at 11:30pm EDT.

It has been renamed I'll Wave Back.

Based on Cal's review and cmbudx's caps I'll have my VCR ready to go.

TIP:  Don't do a Google search for "Christian Craft" unless you want to learn a lot about religious macrame, cross stitch, and needlepoint. Smiley

Gazza,

Yes it's currently running on the Hallmark Channel.  So is the Rory Culkin movie 'Off  Season'  which I keep missing. Also on that channel is 'The View form the Swing' which looks like it's worth checking out.  Others that are boy related include 'The Man From Left Field', 'Go Toward the Light', 'No Place Like Home' and several others goodies.
