Story (partly taken from IMDb)
Pablo, or El Bola, a 12 year old boy is raised in a violent and sordid environment. He lives with his mum, dad and grandma. Before he was born his elder brother died in a car accident, a tragedy the family is still trying to handle. Always compared by his father to his dead brother Pablo can't do anything right and gets physically abused on a regular base. Embarrassed by his family life, he avoids becoming close to classmates.

The arrival of a new boy at school, Alfredo, changes his attitude towards his classmates and especially his new friend. They become best friends. Alfredo finds out about Pablo being abused but Pablo refuses to talk about it. One day Pablo gets beaten up again and runs to Alfredo's house. Alfredo's father promises Pablo that he can stay at their place for the night, but after long discussions decides to inform Pablo's father about his whereabouts.

What will Alfredo do? Will Pablo's dad keep his promise?

Comments
A great story of friendship. The two boys stick together in good and bad times. Great acting too. Highly recommended.

This is a must watch movie.

Fine performance by Juan José Ballesta as the abused boy. A disturbing subject, very believable and realistically directed.

I just finished watching this movie. It was amazing! Extremely well acted, with wonderful, well developped and complex characters (adults and kids). It weaves together several powerful themes and, in spite of the very dark themes it's dealing with, carries a beautiful, subtly hopeful message.

Very highly recommended.
