"Rosie O'Donnell is hilarious", the cover says. "She stars with Denis Leary and Dana Delany.." the back says. From the cover you might think that it's another entertaining kid flick.

But there's more! Joseph Cross for instance. Star of the movie and surprisingly and heartwarmingly present in almost every scene. And the story, by M. Night Shyamalan. A wonderful story that tells about the quest of young Joshua, desperately seeking answers after the death of his grandfather with whom he was very close.

At the end of the schoolyear (and the end of the movie) Joshua has to tell his class his reflections on the past year. An impressive scene in which he explains about the answers he received.

Another small gem definitely worth watching!

Well, I wept.  It is a beautiful film with many touches of humor.  This was the movie that made me note the name Shyamalan for future reference.

(I loved that scene of little Joseph being dragged, still asleep on his feet, to the bathroom to get ready for school.  Brings back memories  Smiley)

My only complaint was that I don't remember Catholic grade school nuns being quite so liberal or so much fun!  Undecided  Grin

There is no doubt that this movie is a gem among many other good movies.
It touches two major issues in the life of a young lad. Death and spiritual belief.
I laughed and wept with this movie and like our friend YoungArthur the first few scenes brought back a lot of pleasant memories.

Thanks for reminding us of this excellent movie.

I love this movie! I have seen so many times I lost count a long time ago, I was originally drawn to it because of Denis Leary and Robert Loggia, 2 of my favorite grown up actors, but was pleasently surprised to find that Joseph Cross was also in it!

This is an excellent film. M. Night Shyamalan knows how to get the best from his actors. The story is very emotional also.

Movies from the 90s have a special charm too, perfect cinematography but everything is still quite old fashioned.

If you really like M. Night Shyamalan's work, try the movie Signs it stars Mel Gibson and a very adorable Roary Culkin! Wink
