Fans of Harry Potter, take note!

Print Post
"A 10-minute sneak peek at the newest Harry Potter film will air on ABC on May 9th. The preview will air during ABC’s presentation of an extended version of the first film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Throughout the broadcast, the network will air behind-the-scenes interviews featuring the stars of the film as they talk about the most recent production of the mega-successful franchise. The 10-minute sneak peek of the June 4th film will air at the end of the film. The kids should love the feature…that is if they can stay up until 3 a.m. when this marathon will probably end."

Thanks for the heads-up Joseph.
Well, this kid will switch over for the last 10 minutes. Smiley  I don't think I'm up for sitting thru a network airing of a movie I have on DVD.. unless they show kid-oriented commercials instead of the usual parade of car ads with rock soundtracks, wrestling promos and feminine deodorant ads.  Roll Eyes

oops, I missed that bit about it being an 'extended version.'  If that's so, I guess I'm hooked.

kids rehearsing for the next harry potter movie?

oh no.

it's Young hooded penitents of the 'Cristo de la Buena Muerte' brotherhood attending the 'Santo Entierro' Easter procession in the coastal city of Ferrol in Northern Spain, April 10, 2004.

Hundreds of Easter processions take place through Spain during Holy Week drawing thousands of visitors.

the santo entierro festival, held over three days, is one of the biggest easter celebrations in the region, representing the combined efforts of five brotherhoods.

Spain is such an interesting country...

A religious society with a broadminded attitude. That's a lovely pic.

Did anybody watch the sneak peak of the next HP movie? I wanted to post a reminder, but I was offline longer than I expected. I don't have cable, so I couldn't watch it.

Anybody?

I was watching parts of the movie, switching back and forth, and I saw some of the interviews with the actors.  But, I didn't see that 10-minute preview.   Undecided

I hope that someone did, and can tell us about it!

Love,

I watched it.  There were short conversations among the 3 kids scattered through the breaks and the preview occurred about one half hour before program’s end so I’m glad I didn’t set up to tape at the very end. Smiley

I was startled at first to see 2 young men and a young woman instead of 3 cute kids but then it was heartening to see how attractive they were.  I thought Rupert especially is growing quite handsome without entirely losing his winning ‘Ron’ qualities.  Emma Watson is a very beautiful and charismatic young woman.

The music track featured a chorus of  "Double, double toil and trouble... something wicked this way comes!" which suggests that MAYBE  John Williams original score might be replaced.  But I kind of doubt it, and surely hope not.

There were brief glimpses of the new director, Alfonso Cuaron, in action and an endorsement of him by former director Chris Columbus who praised his visual sense and strong ability with actors.  Columbus mentions how much he had come to care for the kids and how glad he was that they were in hands that would take care of them and work in their best interests.  Alfonso himself remarked that Columbus had created  "a  universe that was very eloquent" and he felt very comfortable working in it.

There were very brief looks at the acting of  Michael Gambon, Gary Oldman and David Thewlis (I was looking for more) and a longer look at Emma Thompson as Prof. Trelawney.  Hard for any viewer to judge their performances.  Dan Radcliffe hints how awesome it was to have Alan Rickman,  Oldman and Thewlis acting on the same set and how relaxing it was to see them take over and carry the scene.

A little giggling commentary on the love/hate relationship between Ron and Hermione.  Apparently there is some embracing and hand-holding between the two – when Ron isn’t pissed at Hermione because he thinks her cat killed his rat.  I liked this bit of dialogue:

HERMIONE - Egyptians worshipped cats!
RON - Yeah, along with the dung beetle.

They showed  some shots of the new creatures and they look very impressive - the dementors and Buckbeak the hippogriff especially.  I gather that there was much effort given to not letting the dementors too much resemble the ringwraiths from Lord of The Rings .

That’s about all that took my attention. It was a good teaser overall and it was fun watching the young actors converse.

Make a folder:
We found lots of great printable activities on our travels and decided to put them all together into a folder for rainy days and holidays. If you like that idea too, you can make your folder extra-special by printing out our “Wizard” pattern sheet (perhaps onto cardboard) and using it to make a folder to keep your pages in.

And if you want to give a Harry Potter party, visit our Wizard birthday printables pages to get some invitations and writing paper (and be sure to check out the great birthday party ideas which you will find in the links below). Perhaps you could put together a selection of puzzles, bookmarks and colouring pages for the party bags?

Why not print out a few pages of a Wizard pattern onto card, cut it into regular, flash-card sized pieces, and create your own quiz cards! Challenge your friends and you will all have fun! (Thanks Kathy!)

Owl post:
Make a large origami owl out of brown paper (you could also take apart a brown paper bag) and attach him to the top of a cardboard tube. Post your messages through the tube!

A very interesting reply, YoungArthur.  There are so many good links in boy55's post it could be worth a separate spot somewhere on this board.  Prisoner of Azkaban is the J K Rowling book which really showed how good this series was going to be and it's probably her best book - I'm not that keen on Goblet of Fire where I think the strain shows though I think Phoenix is a great read - can't wait to get it again in paperback.  Watching the Azkaban trailer, you can feel a real buzz about this movie and you know it'll be a good one.  I'm sure it's no spolier to say that near the end Harry conjures up a terrific spell - showing what a powerful wizard he is - and this is going to play out so well on screen.   Roll on 4 June !

Thanks for pointing out your reply again, YA. I had indeed missed it. I'm glad to know someone saw the preview. It sounds like it was interesting. I would have liked to see it, especially the bit about the director. I look forward to the movie's release.
