jeux d'enfants, AKA Love Me If You Dare

I can't believe they made yet another movie called "Jeux d'enfants". I don't understand why directors don't care more about the titles they give to their movies. Didn't this guy know there were already dozens of films with that title in all languages?

There are four movies called Jeux d'enfants on IMDb, from 1946, 1986, 1993 and now 2003. That's not including Un jeu d'enfants (2001) and Un jeu d'enfant (1990). Search for Child's Play, Children's Play, Child's Game, Children's Game and you will find dozens more.

At least, the English distributors had the good sense of changing the English title to something a little more original, though it still sucks.

Anyway, having said that, here's a movie that might be worth checking out if you're into contemporary French cinema. The children from the title are probably only in the first 10 or 15 minutes of the film, and then turn into adults for the bulk of the story. But I thought it was worth mentioning anyway, because the actor who plays the male lead as a boy is rather appealing and, hopefully, will appear in other movies in the future. His name is Thibault Verhaeghe and this is his only movie credit on IMDb for now.

Here are the only pics I found so far:

And this looks like an interesting scene:

Yes, you're right, that does look like an interesting scene.   Grin

Thibault Verhaeghe is definitely an attractive and expressive boy, from the looks of that top pic, and I love his look with glasses on in that second pic, too.  Thanks for sharing him with us!

Love,
Sir J

Boy55, I deleted your post in this thread because the text you pasted was not in English and most of our users can't read it.

I did, however, find this very nice poster at the page you linked to, so I'm going to include it here. Thanks! Smiley

I have this on my wish list currently.

It sounds like your recommendation is rent it or see it on TV, correct?

I haven't seen it yet, but it's playing in three or four theatres this week where I live, so I might check it out. I'll let you know if it's worth it.

joseph,

I agree about the poor choice of movie title for this film... they are sabotaging their own film.

zork,

wow... thanks so much for the excellent quality pics.

This film has been picked up for distribution in the US and made its theatrical debut last weekend.

So far it's just playing in Hollywood, Santa Monica and New York.

I have just returned from seeing this film.
I recommend it to those here with reservations. We have it listed in our database as a Drama/Romance, I call it a very, very black comedy.
Visually interesting, never boring but very cruel in places (while rather emotional in others). Film has been compared to Amelie, but that only works on a visual level for me. Amelie was playful and whimsical; whimsical is a word I would NEVER use to describe this film.
Thibault Verhaeghe was fantastic in his too short segment of the film. While quantity is small, quality is very high. His performance and that of his female counterpart truly set up the rest of the story. If you don't buy into the characters in the first ten minutes, you will absolutely hate the rest of the film. Fortunately I thought the beginning of the film was so strong that I stayed involved in the rest of it.
My rating 8/10 movie 6/10 boy movie (would be even lower were it not for Thibault's exceptional performance!)
