After watching Michael Moore's excellent but depressing documentary 'Bowling for Columbine', I decided to balance things a little by watching something more inspiring so I checked out 'Ryan's Well', a 50 minute film which follows the story of one of the most positive ventures by an individual I've ever seen.

--------------------------------------------------------

SYNOPSIS:

Lalita Krishna's touching documentary RYAN'S WELL follows the triumphant story of a young boy named Ryan and his mission to raise $70 to assist a charity with fundraising. The original $70 he collected doing simple household chores to support non-profit organizations such as WaterCan, CPAR, CIDA and Free the Children grew to over $500,000 to support people in Africa who need clean water to drink.

Lalita Krishna documents this historical venture from its beginning in Canada right through to Ryan’s first visit to Uganda to see the results of his monumental efforts. Krishna manages to capture touching moments when Ryan meets his very special pen pal, Jimmy, who lives in the community where the well is being constructed. The documentary goes beyond the celebration of accomplishments to highlight an extremely intelligent and creative boy, who carefully used his time in the spotlight to share the struggles of others and show how anyone can help.

This moving documentary shows the strength and courage of Ryan, his friends and family as they fight for the rights of the underprivileged. It also explores what touched Ryan, what motivated him and what inspired him to chase his selfless dream.

RYAN'S WELL is a truly inspiring story.

There is little else that needs to be said other than that I think Ryan is an awesome young fella.

He still continues to work for his causes today:
