Actor Bruce Jones, who plays his surrogate soap dad Les Battersby, will star with him as cruel orphanage boss Mr Bumble in the classic tale by Charles Dickens.
The pair will recreate the scene from the 1968 film Oliver! in which the hungry lad begs for another helping of gruel, saying: “Please Sir, I want some more.”
And Bradley Walsh — Corrie’s Danny Baldwin — will be pickpocket king Fagin, whose gang of child thieves Oliver joins after running away.
Co-stars will sing hits from the musical, including Consider Yourself and Oom-Pah-Pah.
The special will be screened next month as part of the telethon’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Telly insiders expect Sam to put in a performance to rival child star Mark Lester, who appeared in the original film.
One said: “Sam’s fantastic for the part. He’s used to playing a character who goes through trials and tribulations.”
Chesney has much in common with Oliver. Fans have seen him mistreated and abandoned by mum Cilla Brown (actress Wendi Peters), forced to shoplift from Rita, and become unlikely pals with Les.
The only real allies the schoolboy has are Les, sister Fizz and dog Schmeichel.
Schoolboy actor Sam, who started out in the Werther’s Originals adverts, has collected a clutch of gongs this year.
He is favourite to win Best Newcomer at the National TV Awards next Tuesday — the youngest star ever nominated - itv voting form linked below.
The Sun told this month how he has signed a mega-bucks deal to stay in Corrie another year. - allegedly (according to the sun) £40,000 per year.
