Well, maybe Peter Pan wasn't British.   Wink

I decided that they cast an American boy purely for contrast or to point up Peter's unique position in the film.  But I dunno. The rest of the boys are British and it is strange that after Peter, only Brit boys fell out of their prams. Smiley  But this is definitely not a movie to think about too much, just enjoy!

I just loved the accents of all the boys and I turned on the english subtitles to catch some of the cute and funny lines from the boys which are hard to hear on the DVD. For example, as the boys are milling about outside Wendy's hut, about to ask her to be their mother,  almost lost on the soundtrack are:
"First impressions are really so important, don't you think?"
"Look loveable!"

..or maybe its just my ears that are going bad. Wink

I tend to agree that Jeremy should have been required to neutralise his American accent. I thought he was good though...

.. my major criticism was mainly that he obviously did a hell of a lot of growing during the shooting of the movie, which of course contradicts the concept of him being a boy who never grew up.

Jeremy should've spoken with a British accent. Otherwise it just looks bad. I hate it when movies have someone that speaks with the wrong accent. Shocked

I'm thinking of Tony Curtis in that old vintage sword and sandal flick (which I can't remember the name of!)--

Yeah, well the thing is fake accents usually suck anyway. If I have to choose between hearing a boy sound like an idiot trying to fake an accent and hearing him speak in his natural way, I'll choose the latter. A good example of that is Edges of the Lord, which I saw earlier today. Not a bad movie, but it takes place in Poland and most of the actors are not Polish. Liam Hess gives a fine performance in terms of body language and facial expressions, but his fake accent is ridiculous and tiresome to listen to. They should have shot the movie in Polish with Polish actors and English subtitles.

Same thing with Peter Pan. They should have picked a british actor to play the lead. But is anyone seriously going to complain about their decision to cast Jeremy Sumpters in that role? Sure, he has the wrong accent. But he certainly had the right looks!!

Personally it didn't bother me too much, but I can see how it would be annoying to some, especially British viewers.

I did like Tony's accent (Cary Grant style) in one of my all time favourite movies 'Some Like it Hot'. Curtis at his delightful best.

I love british, english and australian accents. It would have been cool to hear Jeremy with an accent, but I dont think him not having one took away from the movie...I did'nt pay it any attention actaully. I have to say, I am a little upset there was no lostboys skinny dipping scene :p LOL

yep, str8 to hell for that one:P

The presence of His Most Cinematic Highness, Jeremy Sumpter, in any movie is a sight to behold. He is the best looking boy actor that has ever graced the cinema screen and we Brits should feel honoured that such a teenager was given the part of Peter Pan. I loved his sly looks at Wendy and how he is slightly short tongued which you can sometimes see when he speaks. A natural quirk which only adds to His Highness's overall charm. Although other boy actors were in the film they were reduced to ciphers in the presence of the illustrious Jeremy. It was also interesting to see a BOY playing Peter instead of the interminable girl or young woman.

Smiley I saw many times this movie. I liked the very good play of Jérémy SUMPTER in part of Peter PAN. My movie rating is 7/10.

Thanks, 'nerodiaman', for your replies. I haven't seen the Russian version.
Being unable to 'modify' my previous post due to 'internal server error' I wanted to add that I'm sorry because I know I've bumped 'gees' post after 9 years. Also I wanted to agree with 'josephk' about fake accents. Smiley
