Erik in the land of Insects: a new film that was just released in the Dutch cinemas. Based on a book of the Dutch author Godfried Bomans.

Ten year old Eric (played by Jasper Oldenhof) has to give a show-and-tell at school, but he can’t decide on a subject. His grandfather, who helps looks after the boy since Eric’s father passed away, offers to help. He
introduces Eric to a wonderland of lost objects in the coach house of his farm, and shows him a magical school poster of a field full of insects, that Eric’s father loved when he was a boy. Staying the night with his grandfather, Eric leaves his bed and goes to look at the poster again. He finds himself drawn into the land of insects. Being tiny himself now, he lives amongst the insects for one long night, during which he learns a lot about them and also about life, death and friendship.

This one had escaped my notice until now.

Thanks 'soles for mentioning it, it's the latest addition to my wish list.  Smiley

Is this being marketed as a kids film or as a film with a kid in the lead role?

Well Zab, I guess both. The novel (as far as I can remember) was also not only meant for kids but also for adults.

By the way: the movie has not been released yet: it will open 9 December..

On IMBd they have a page for a previous version made as a TV series in 1979:

soles,

Thanks for the info, though it appears there won't be subs.

I guess you'll have to translate for all of us.  Grin

Smiley I saw this movie this afternoon. I liked very much the very good play of Jasper OLDENHOF in part of Erik. My movie rating is 7/10.

For entomologists among us I'd like to point out that

has a lot to offer. There's even a pretty boy in it.
