Wanthong Thota holds a knife to the throat of schoolboy Jiranon Kerdphum, 9, in Bangkok on Tuesday Dec. 7,2004. Thota, 45, appeared to be intoxicated during the incident, which ended when police startled him with gunshots, allowing the boy to escape. He was then beaten by a crowd of onlookers.
