Interesting haircut

I usually prefer long hair to short but I confess to having rather eclectic tastes. In this instance almost no-hair is rather appealing.

Such is the hairstyle of choice of young Luke & Elliott Tittensor as Carl in the UK TV series "Shameless" which is surely one of the most extraordinary comedy/dramas ever seen on TV.

Never seen the show. Looks interesting, though.

According to a few sources, including TV Barn, Shameless will start airing in the US in early April on BBC America.  No doubt that is due to the publicity here.  Smiley

I think they will start with the beginning of the series so it will be a year or so behind the Brits.

Do keep us posted Mark.

Based on the publicity here, I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in watching.  Smiley

A little bit of a warning...  young Carl is by no means the main character in the series. He is one member of a large ensemble of supporting players.

The acting in this series is top notch and it's full of biting humour that many won't appreciate.

I'm actually surprised it's getting shown in the US mainly because the heavily accented dialogue with local working class slang would probably be pretty difficult for most Americans to grasp.

It's TV that dares to be different... it pushes boundaries and there should be more of it.

Cal, your desription (in spite of the information that Carl is only one of a large ensemble of supporting players) makes me want to see this series even more. It might play on BBC Canada too, but I don't even have regular cable, much less digital or sattelite, which is what you need to get that channel, I think.

If you can play Region 2 PAL discs, the first series has been released on DVD in the UK.

Thanks for the heads up Mark. I hate when I see new shows or even some old shows from the UK posted because I know I'll never get to see them. "My family" is the only tv sticom (with a boy actor) from the uk that I've seen. I'll be sure to keep a eye out for "Shameless" Wink

Now we have a definite date for Shameless in the US.  It starts on Sunday April 3rd, at 10 PM EDT on BBC America.  Reruns at 1 and 4 AM on April 4.  There's another episode on Thursday April 7 at 10 PM.

The (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) describes several cast members of potential interest:  "Lip (Jody Latham, State of Play) is a mouthy but extremely bright teenager. His brother, Ian (Gerard Kearns), keeps his private life very private. Rounding out the clan are wild pre-teen Carl (Elliott Tittensor) and hyperactive toddler Liam (Joseph Furnace)."

So did anybody else watch Shameless debut in the US Sunday night?  Wow...it's amazing that this runs on regular TV in the UK.  In one episode, all kinds of sex, language, nudity, and drunkenness.  The subplot where the older brother discovers that his younger brother is hiding gay porn - and then a lot more secrets - is interesting, and well done.  I think Carl, who is the VERY short haired kid in the pictures here, is going to be my favorite, but he certainly didn't have much to do in episode 1.  I can't say for 100% sure that I'm hooked on this show, but I'll definitely be watching the second episode on Thursday night.

Meanwhile it's kinda funny that with everything going on so explicitly in Shameless, BBC America felt the need to censor the "F" word.  In writing, it's okay.  It's just the speaking of that horrible word, that's the one thing we Americans just can't tolerate, I guess.  Smiley

Mark...

The first time I saw the series I wasn't sure if I'd stick with it either. I initially found the character of Frank so loathesome that it almost turned me off. However I stuck with it and became hooked. Frank actually turn out to be quite a sympathetic character and almost has some endearing traits. He's brilliantly portrayed by David Threlfall.

The series ran uncensored here in Oz too. The 'f' word is allowed on network TV after 8.30 pm BTW. The 'C___' word is the rarity though, but I think that's mainly because movie producers often see it as being a sexist swear word.  'F---' is much more politically correct   Grin

Believe me - it's pretty tame compared with some of the stuff Channel 4 airs Smiley

I did get to watch this Mark.

Speaking for flyover country, I'm not sure that it's my kind of show. Ian and Carl's characters are of some interest to me but I suspect my interest will depend on how much future storylines will feature them. It seemed that there were an awful lot of characters, most of whom I just found unpleasant or uninvolving.
