A boy loves Little League, but he is 12, so next year he has to move up to playing on a big field.  His dad is the coach, a widower, and some kind of sleazy lawyer.  When the IRS starts to investigate him for tax fraud, he skips town.  But he takes the kid with him.  They get new names (the boy becomes Mickey), and move cross-country to Las Vegas.

His new phony birth certificate shows Mickey as a year younger.  So he gets the idea of playing Little League for one more year... What harm can that do?

The movie is written and produced by John Grisham, so you know that decision to cheat leads to complications, right?

The movie-makers knew that getting actors to be convincing as ball-players doesn't work.  So they got real ball-players and taught them to act.  They are.....

Shawn Salinas  as  Mickey

Is baseball suddenly becoming the 'in' thing again? That's the third one so far this year...  after Sandlot2 and Bad News Bears.

I've never had a problem with being convinced that the young actors in previous baseball flicks could play ball.  I assume it's more noticeable to those who live baseball...

AnywayI hope those kids can act or the movie won't work for me, even if they do play ball expertly.

Actually this film has been in the can for ages, cal.
It was filmed between April and August of 2001!
However, Grisham and his partners were never able to find a distributor. They released it themselves regionally in 2004, mostly in the southern United States before getting it on DVD this year.

The boys in the film are okay but I had big problems with the script.

The plot in this film calls for a makeover on Shawn Salinas. This begs the question.....Blond or Brunette?

The kid in the movie (and his Dad) change their appearance so the FBI won't be able to find them.

His hair was one color at the beginning of the movie, then another color for the rest.  I assume the question above was: "Guess which is his real color".
