I just watched this movie and I'm full of thoughts and emotions about it.  That's a good thing.  This is a flawed masterpiece, maybe some would say deeply flawed, but it still stirs up strong feelings and comes close to being great.

The coming-of-age theme is really well done.  Kids at the same age grow up in different stages.  Things are different for one kid who is starting to see his best friend in a new way. 

At times I was very much distracted by the camcorder feel to this movie.  In a way it looks more like a home movie on DV than a real film.  Movies shouldn't call so much attention to their styles, but by the end I was still blown away by the final scenes. 

There are a lot of acenes that go against the typical stereotype for a movie with a theme like this.  In fact, at the beginning, I thought the characters were reversed because they are so different from what I expected.  This actually makes the movie ring much more true. 

One spoiler alert:  try and stay away from the plot description that shows up on many websites including yesasia.com.  It must be lifted off the box, because it's always worded the same way, starting with "When little Beckham met little Owen in a Hong Kong high school, what's gonna happen...". If you see these words, stop reading! This synopsis gives away a big dramatic moment that occurs in the last 10 minutes of the movie.  No synopsis should ever be so much of a spoiler.

I found some links on the film by googling it, but keeping in mind Mark's warning I'm just going to see it first and read about it later.....
