Facing the Truth

Very good film.

Not really a boy movie but quite a lot of flashbacks to early teenage years... of particular interest was a scene that haunts the main character's memory... a time when he betrayed his two friends when they shared an intimate moment as youngsters.. he dobbed them in to the priest who enacted his wrath on the young 'sinners':

What's that he's smoking?

What on earth does he mean?

An invitation, after a swim..

... a bit more than a regular tickle...

...but they don't count on their friend...

...dobbing them in to the priest...

...who punishes the wicked boys...

..and chastises them severely...

Another memory of an even earlier time.

Cute but still a fink! I don't know if I can take another film showing boys being beaten for being boys.
In that vein, I tried watching 'Karate Kid' again on cable but gave up when I realized that beautiful lad was going to get beat up through much of the movie. I know, just a movie. Sad  Hard to believe that Ralph Macchio was at least 20 in that film. Shocked

Another film that slipped under my radar.

Nils Malmros, the film's director, has made 4 other films I'm interested in seeing as well...Boys, Århus by night, Lars-Ole 5C, and Tree of Knowledge.

I'd like to see all his movies...  I like his style and he's not afraid to exercise a pleasing 'freedom of expression' level.

I've also seen Drenge (Boys) and Arhus by Night which I saw about 20 years ago. Both well worth a look..  well several looks actually.   Smiley

This looks like a very good movie. Comments on IMDb are calling it a masterpiece and it has a very high rating. Unfortunately, doesn't look like there's any plan to release this in North America at the moment.

There might still be hope, though. IMDb says this was still playing at festivals in December 2004, so it might still get some sort of release in the near future. Although none of the director's other films seem to be available either...

Damn.
