I think it was a fairly realistic slice of life. European films don't often follow the typical Hollywood formula of mixing up the elements of sadness and humour to keep audiences entertained. This is a movie about relationships and domestic abuse. It does have a positive note of sorts at the end but at times it is desperately sad. There are a couple of light moments when the young fella laughs but they weren't capable... probably too much movement and wrong angles to get a decent cap.
