Comparing the "Good Sons"

Just a little comparison of Elijah Wood and Macauley Culkin. I'm sure to get  some disagreement, but this is my impressions.

best laugh----Elijah
but, best smile---Mac
better actor----Elijah
better range---Mac
more longevity---obviously, Elijah
best eyes---Elijah, easily
funniest---Mac
most expressive---Elijah
best dead-pan----Mac
best voice---Mac
best hair---Mac
best crier---Elijah
they even ran differently, as you can see in The Good Son. Mac ran straight up, Elijah ran head down, as if he was going to fall.

Please post your opinion, and add others if you think of any.

This is funny. I don't know if I can dissect actors like that.

One thing, thoug: I'd argue that Mac has more longevity than Elijah Wood. Just because he did Lord of the Rings doesn't mean he's going to have a great acting career. Most people agree that he sucked big time in that movie. He basically didn't act, but just kind of mechanically moved through the role, speaking his line with zero emotion or any kind of expression. Compare that to the wonderful performances he gave in films like Paradise, The Good Son and The War, and you wonder what the hell happened to his talent.

Macauley Culkin may not be nearly as popular as he used to be, but his talent seems to have grown rather than faded away. He has been receiving critical acclaim for his roles in theatre productions and in the film Saved. He's not concerned with just making movies to stay popular, so it may be a while before we see him in another movie. But my guess is that when he finds the right projects, he'll continue to give good performances in small good indie films. And since he doesn't really need the money, I think that's a very sensible thing to do.

I would say that Elijah has the best personality simply because he was on a short list of most likable movie personalities in a review that I read. Mac, while he may be very nice, was not on that list. There is no other way to compare them off the screen, but from what we read, is there?

I've seen Mac in several interviews, some of them when he was a kid and I found his personality to be more engaging than Elijah's. I also think personality comes through quite strongly in acting... particularly comedy.  As much as I liked Elijah as a boy actor, I can't imagine him having the personality to carry a film like Home Alone.

I agree with Cal. And I think that Larry King interview MikeZ (or someone else) posted recently with Mac shows that he's still got a pretty cool personality today. He sounds the type of guy I'd like to have as a friend.
