I guess nobody has seen it, or can't remember if they have.

Shane is 4 years older than Mac... but would have probably been about 12 when he made 'Our Town'.

The movie looks as if it's worth watching too.

Thanks for the alert gee.

If it ever comes out on DVD (I doubt it) I will rent it and make caps of it. Stage plays will never be a volume seller but this would be interesting according to the reviews that I have seen. Trivia from Imdb: Shane was named for Kit's (his father) favorite all time movie and his middle name Arliss for the character in the film "Old Yeller".

Beautiful thread.  I haven't seen Shane's movie  either but I really would love to.  What a family of boys the Culkins are ! Their parents sure made a good job of them, no matter what the later difficulties were.  Funny thing is that Mac was much the worst actor - unless Shane is worse which I can't believe - but he's also the one really touched by greatness, HE is the one we will never forget with his yelp when he applies the aftershave.  There are some nice Culkin family memories from Keiran in the commentary to Igby Goes Down, O/T for the board but worth a listen.

Well, I certainly would not call him the "worst" of the three. But the thing is he has some very tough competition, since both his brothers are extremely talented.

In my opinion, Macauley has rarely (if ever) had a chance to show the subtlety and depth of interpretation that Rory displayed in Mean Creek or You Can Count on Me, or Kieran in The Mighty or Igby Goes Down.

But I don't take that to mean that Mac was in any way less talented. He had his own charm and charisma, and his performance in Home Alone is of a very different nature than the more dramatic roles his brothers have played. Also, I think that he would have been just as good as them, given the proper roles.

The Culkins are simply an amazing family of actors. I find it impossible to pick one over the other as being  the most talented.

I have stayed out of the “Who is the best” Culkin wars. I will do so still but will add that they “each” have their own qualities and personalities that make their talents work in certain movies more so than others. Macauley was kind of Type cast for a couple of years and it was probably impossible for him to get a serious role for awhile until The Good Son came out. The film did not do real well because of Macauley’s image that most people had remembered him by and wanted to remember him by.

I like Rembrandt's "Culkin Wars", am delirious at the thought of it  -  one notable shining light of this forum is that we don't row, we don't engage in flame-threads and I feel that makes this board unique.  Anyways, back to the Culkins:  UK TV showed a child-stars go bad programme last week; Mac was on it but the best they could drag up was that he'd smoked a weed and appeared as a witness for Michael Jackson Shocked !  That was the best they could come up with which proved to me that Macauley had survived a difficult adolosence and shown himself to be the in-charge guy.  Go Mac  Grin

Programs like that make me puke. Every generation has a mere handful of kid actors who really do have major problems but I'm totally convinced that they don't misbehave in greater proportion than the general population. Mac had the reputation of being a spoilt brat on set... but I suspect he was just being a normal kid...  rather than a precious (boring) goody goody.  They've got to be kidding by suggesting that appearing as a witness on behalf of Jackson makes him 'bad'... I mean sheeesh!  ???

I'll take the opportunity to say thank you to BA posters for being so well behaved... it makes things so much more pleasant.   Smiley
