Were there two different versions made of this film..  one in French and the other in English?

I've always wondered why it's not a more common practice among film makers to make simultaneous English language versions. Only film buffs and special needs audiences like ourselves appreciate subtitled movies.

Then more recently, Tommy and the Wildcat was shot with both English and Finnish versions - although the English version was then redubbed by Canadian/American actors, but the original Finnish actors were speaking the English lines and so the lips sync up.

But then Tommy and the Wildcat doesn't have a lot of dialogue and so there wasn't much to shoot twice.

I suspect the main reason why films aren't shot in multiple languages is because it's a lot cheaper to just dub them - and once the distributors discovered that the film-going public was prepared to accept dubbed films (well, most of them anyway), then why go to the expense of making a film twice (or three times, etc)
