A movie much talked about as a family film back in the 70’s but which I didn’t get around to seeing until now. A boy whose Ozark family is struggling to get by has his heart set on, not just a dog, but a pair of fine-bred coon hunters.  He works and saves enough to pay for the pups himself. The film covers mostly familiar ground for a long while until toward the end when tragedy occurs and the boy learns about love and loss. The ending is very tearful and even has some gleams of beauty. I thought so, anyway.
Put another way,  I was thinking 6 out of 10 for most of the movie but by about the last quarter I was well into 8/10.  Stewart Petersen was a very likable young actor and handled most of his scenes very well.

This is another one of those remake stories for you Jasen.
I've never seen either version though I've heard this version is the best.

Love that first pic, YA  Smiley
