Yep - 'current' means movies/actors you currently like, irrespective of when the movie was made or how long ago the actor was around.
Thinking about it, it'll probly be easiest to have a monthly list - i.e. from the 1st to the 31st of March you can chop and change your list of 10 favourites, then on the 1st of April it 'locks' the list for March, and you can choose your favourites for April.

Thank you for do this work Bijou
Hehe, you can thank me when its finished and working properly :p
As for the number of entries per list - you could specify as few or as many as you wanted, up to, say 250. If you only had 100 favourites, that's all you'd have to choose.

love,
Bijou

I guess I will only have one list if that's what "current" means. My all-time favorites would be an expansion of that list. In other words, if you were to ask me my top 5 favorite movies of all time, I'd say Empire of the Sun, Lˇolo, L.I.E., Stand By Me, and The Cure. If you were to ask my 5 current favorite movies as of today, I'd say the same thing.

But if I saw a movie tomorrow that I liked better than The Cure, it would be the new #5 movie, whether you called it all time or current favorites.

I think for current movies... I'd list the movies I've seen recently. In my mind there is an interesting metamorphosis from what I'd deem to be a current favourite as opposed to an all time favourite. I tend to regard movies that I watch over and over again as all time favourites, so it takes a while for a movie to reach that status.

Even more so with boy actors. Many young actors become instant favourites but fade from memory or lose their impact over time. However suddenly an actor becomes a favourite again when rewatching an old movie... this happened to me when I watched 'Men of Boys Town' for the first time in many years. Daryl Hickman, an all time favourite suddenly became a current favourite again..

Am I making sense?

Another thing to consider with current lists is that if I watch an old movie for the first time or see a former boy actor in an old movie for the first time, I feel it'd be more appropriate to list them in current favourites rather than all time favourites..

Whew!!

I'm not confused Grin

can we also have a "modern" Favorite alltime and current list as well as an "oldtime" alltime and current favorite lists?

by "modern" I mean boy actors currently under 16, and "oldtime" those over 16

that would make things more in prespective Wink & Bijou's task more difficult Cheesy

That's not such a 'bear' brained idea.

I've got some ideas for a few more lists ... we could have one for:

Current favourite Icelandic boy actor
All time favourite Icelandic boy actor
Current favourite ex-patriot Brit boy actor living in Canada
All time favourite boy actor in Black and White movies
Favourite boy actor not on Russian Tv
Favourite boy actor who is really only a model
Favourite boy actor without an American accent
Favourite future boy actor
etc etc etc Grin

Ok, how's about this -
All time favourite up to 250 movies
All time favourite up to 250 actors
Then members can name and define any number of their own custom actor and movie lists, whether it be current favourites or favourite actors whose surname begins with A and whose firstname has at least one other vowel in it Tongue

Seriously - I had the idea of user-defined lists a while ago. I think it's probably the most future-proof way of doing it.
All those who want to maintain monthly, or even weekly favourites lists can do so, simply by naming their lists by the current date. Also, there may well be situations where other types of favourites lists would be useful or just fun.

User-defined list could be cool. Personally I have no use for a current-favourite list, but I might think of a few other fun lists. I hope we'll be able to share these lists with other users, otherwise it kind of takes all the fun out of it.

Yep, what I'll do is set up a YaBBCode tag, like the ones for displaying movie and actor profiles from the database, to display lists in posts.

As I said, it'll be a while before it's done - as well as adding this extra feature, I'm re-writing a lot of the rest of the database.
I will, of course make an announcement when its finished.
