The following were my personal favorites among the films I saw in first run environments (film festivals, cinemas etc) in 2004. Because of the wide variance in film distribution, some of these movies have been in certain markets for awhile before I saw them and some of these movies have yet to make it to wherever you may be reading this from.

Disclaimer: Not all of these films are recommended for boy content, though most will have a boy character somewhere in them.

There are so many good movies to look forward to..  from your impressive list I've only seen Feather Boy, Valentin, Les Choristes, Song for a Raggy Boy, Machuca and In Oranje so far...

If the rest of the movies are as good I'll be very pleased indeed.

Great list Zab. As always, you have seen a lot more on-topic movies than I have this year. I hope I get a chance to see many of these.

cal,

They absolutely are. I think last year's list had higher quality at the very top, but this year's has greater depth throughout the whole top 30. Two of last year's top 30 are on World Movies this month by the way.  Wink

joseph,

You just have to have a lot of free time  Grin
I saw 23 of my top 30 in film festivals (8 different film festivals in 3 states and 2 countries!)

I know you have seen a number of films I haven't this year, an accounting of all of your favorites for the year would be good reading.

What a superb posting of films !  I was thinking the other day of how the internet saves people like me from lots of tiresome tasks: such as leafing through the annual International Variety publication which lists important film releases worldwide.  Zab's list cuts to the chase and I don't need to whizz past every single movie of last year;  here's richness, indeed.  Thanks a bunch, Zab. I have seen "Song for a Raggy Boy", it made me cry with anger !

Another really fine list for future reference. Thank you, Zab. So far, I have managed to see 3 on your list, with 'Love Me If You Dare' on the way. I'll have to patiently await DVD release on most of the others.

del, I recognize some of myself in you. I page through the Variety annual as well looking for ideas on which films to look for.   Grin

YA,
Other than Valentin, which others have you seen?

How embarassing. I miscounted. Actually, only one other besides 'Valentin': 'House of Sand and Fog.' It was a fine movie but the ending saddened me deeply. Embarrassed

Well, you will have three in when Love Me If You Dare arrives.  Cheesy
It's a bit offbeat, I'm curious as to your view on it.

Your observation on House is dead on. The ending was a surprise to me and hit me harder than it would have if I had seen it coming.
