Montreal World Film Festival - 2003
12. Aug 2003 at 21:31
Print Post
I have just received (by e-mail) the list of films that will be presented at the 2003 World Film Festival in Montreal (August 27 to Sept 7). Going through the list quickly, I've picked up about a dozen films that may or may not be of interest.

I thought I might as well start a thread here. As I gather more information about these movies, I'll post it here. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a few images as well.

Stay tuned for details.

I just finished scanning the list of films as well. I came up with 35 worth researching.

Some were already on my wish list.

aaaa..

The yellow link to imbd will appear automatically if we already have the movie on our database...

If you click on the movie/actor title..  it will take you to the data base profile.

To incorporate such a link in a post it's as simple as typing in the movies index number.

If you hover your mouse pointer over the above title of I'm not Scared you should see the number 1008 as the reference number on the bottom of your browser window.

write:

{movie=1008}  but use these [       ]  instead of these {     }

Can be done with any movie or actor that is on the database.

Wow, Zab! You're obviously a lot better at this than I am. So many of these films I had missed! Well, to be honest I didn't really have time to look at the films that closely. And I probably won't have time to look at it this weekend either. Hopefully next week.

If that Elephant is the Elephant that won at Cannes this year, then I'll definitely do everything in my power to go see it. I think it's more about teenagers than about young boys, but I'd want to see it even if it didn't have any boys in it. Gus van Sant is a really fascinating director.

Thanks for all your suggestions and the beautiful images you've posted. They'll be really helpful. Hopefull I can find a few things that will be helpful to you too. Smiley

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to both of you!   Grin

I'm glad you posted the pics with'em.  I wish I could go to a movie festival, too!   Undecided

Love,
Sir J

Yes joseph,
Elephant is the prize winning film from Cannes and it's focus is more teen oriented, but I suspect you and I aren't the only readers of this forum who might be interested in seeing it someday Wink

I have a few more possibilities for you

There are several more pictures available for this movie at its official site (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

It's getting harder to find stills for the remaining movies on my list. The Bokunchi picture came from my own feeble attempt to vidcap (no production company would take credit for such a grainy shot).

If you (or anyone else) wants to do some searching, I'm still looking for stills from Anger of the Gods, Gaz Bar Blues, Moonlight, The Return, Maria, Crescent Moon, Two Angels, Dreams of Dust and A Boy's Summer in 1945.

Thanks for posting that link, Zab. It sounds like Little Brother of War might be one of those rare films with a nice bonding element between a man and a boy. I know I'd sure like to see it after reading about it.  Smiley

Sir J

Thanks, Zablowski, what a beautiful thing it is to visit this site !  Like joseph, I too am interested in Elephant which sounds exceptionally interesting - but all the pictures Zab has posted look to be from good movies.  Hey, you couldn't say that about the stuff that's coming out of Holywood, this summer, could you ?

It looks like the requisite number of boy-with-dog and/or boy-with-cat movies is represented.

I like that kitty in "Bare Ground" with the moustache. Cute.

I am leaving for Montreal in a few hours. While there, I will try to catch as many films at the festival as humanly possible. On my schedule are:

Little Brother of War
El Polaquito
Moonlight
The Miracle of Bern
Song for a Raggy Boy
Planta 4a
A Thousand Months
The Maldonado Miracle
Ledina
Eres mi héroe
Crescent Moon
Io non paura

Depending on availability of tickets and whatever might come up unexpectedly in my schedule, that list of movies is very flexible.

I'll try to provide brief reviews for all the films I'll see when I return. I will also create profiles for all these movies in our database.

See you all in about five days.
