This could be a SPOILER for any who are not familiar with Fagin's end as Dickens wrote it.

Strange - as awed as I was by Barney Clark's Oliver who I now consider the loveliest and most wistful of them all . . I did not expect a scene of really emotional power. But this scene did it for me. (And no, I don't think Barney is by any means the best actor to take the role. But he does very well here.)

At the ending, Oliver comes to visit Fagin who is in prison and raving in terror of the gallows. Tender-hearted Oliver cannot forget Fagin's kindliness toward him and earnestly tries to render some comfort.
"Fagin, you were kind to me," Oliver says. Fagin embraces him. And this scene follows--

This 2005 version could have been made-for-tv.

Attending this film was possibly the very worst spending of 8 euros in recent years.

Where is Fagan's gang?  There's only a few kids in his hideout, and Polanski or the scriptwriter thought this was a good way to film the story.

Instead of a very poor remake of "Oliver Twist", (which has been filmed at least ten times),  why not an accurate rendition of "Walkabout" or the Fred Gibson novels?
