Now THAT'S a thread!

This very old thread was discovered in the General Discussion archives.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

If this were filmed in early 1997, using actors from that very same period of time, it would definitely include:

David Gallagher  (Jack)
Michael Angarano  (Ralph)
Keegan McIntosh  (Simon)
Miko Hughes
Mason Gamble
Eric Lloyd
Joseph Cross
Eli Marienthal
Brawley Nolte
Joel Palmer
Andrew Ducote
Tom Felton
Paul Terry
Justin Berfield
William Greenblatt
T.J. Lowther

Using the 'time-travel' option, David Gallagher would still play the role of Jack.... but Ralph would be Clay O'Brien, and Simon would be a toss-up between Sonny Bupp and Shane Sinutko, (giving them both at least a dozen screen-tests to 'win' the part.)

Ricky Schroder from 1980 would play the role of both twins, utilizing the best methods in doubling his character on screen.

In the rest of the cast, David Ladd, Gary Gray, Scotty Leavenworth, Fergus McLelland, Ricky Sorenson, Philip De Lacy, Keegan McIntosh, Dickie Moore, Barret Oliver, Badget Dale (yes he returns), Johnny Sheffield, William Dix, and Billy Lee.

Ah yes...  that was a 'cheeky' thread wasn't it.

It's rather interesting how the continually expanding cancer of conservative western society begins to impose self regulated censorship on us all... and an almost paranoid caution by even the most libertarian of us.

Janet Jackson's titular moment a year or so ago was a perfect example of how hysterical the denizens of outrage react to exposure of 'tabooed flesh'.

As a result, even advocating that nudity or nakedness is natural or harmless is now regarded as social heresy.

Of course we all now know why American kids don't go naked...  it's because they all have blurry bits down there  Smiley

Good humor.

Over the years, it seems that American films are much more reluctant to have innocent nudity of the younger generation.

In this country, (living near the Mediterranean), nudity isn't at all uncommon for youngsters at the beach.

It's scary to read the news in the 'western' world, and see such enormous paranoia regarding the issue of nudity, innocent or not, in the media.... and how it filters into the general public.

Nudity / Lord of the Flies

Nudity: As an example of some of the paranoia regarding nudity I offer some of the commentary provided by the director of "Junior Pilot." He explains that he filmed a scene with the main character "topless" and later went back and shot new footage to insert into the scene which showed the actor with a pajama bottom on so that no one would think that the actor was nude in that scene. (The commentary for this film is particularly good. It features the writer/director and the child lead actor - Jordan Garrett.)

Lord of the Flies: I have both movies on DVD and find the first version to be really stiff. For instance, the roll call scene in the first version is incredibly amateurish! However, some of the casting in this first version is great. For instance, I don't think that the twins could have been better!   Also the behind the scenes stuff with the Criterion edition of the first one is quite interesting.

Thanks for the heads-up on this young actor.  It would be nice to see another film he's in as well.

As for resurrecting this old thread: "Casting Call, Lord of the Flies".... it's interesting to see a change between then and now, when it comes to boldness in a topic such as this.

Nils Malmros has written a script of this story to be filmed.... but no indication yet as to if/when he will actually follow through with the production.

If he hasn't made a faithful adaptation, then no one likely will.

It's difficult to imagine "Lord of the Flies" becoming a Danish film.
