Kamran, a 12-year-old Iranian-American boy learns about his ancestor, Omar, who lived in 11th century Persia.   Most of the film is a dramatization of Omar's life, filmed in Khazakhstan.  And for most of that, Omar is grown up.  But there is maybe 20 minutes of little Omar, and his extra-close friend little Hassan.  Plus some modern-day scenes where Kamran goes to England to see a copy of the Fitzgerald Rubaiyat, and to Iran to hear the tales in person from his grandfather.
