Here is my list of personal favorites among the films I saw in first run environments (film festivals, cinemas etc) in 2005. Because of the wide variance in film distribution, some of these movies have been in certain markets for awhile before I saw them and some of these movies have yet to make it to wherever you may be reading this from.

Disclaimer: Not all of these films are recommended for boy content, though most will have a boy character somewhere in them.

This year I also compiled a top 5 list of the short films I have seen. Although I didn't do as well at finding nice promotional pictures of them.

I am interested in reading your lists of the best films of 2005 or even the best films you have seen in 2005 as well.

I am also interested in any commentary you may wish to offer on the titles in my list.  Smiley

Great choices Zab.  I wish I had heard of half of them.   Undecided

My situation is that I live in a very small town in the USA - a lot of these indie films, foreign favorites, and shorts are rarely available to me.  Hence I have a huge dependence on the DL groups to fill the void.

(Believe it or not - Millions didn't even polay here.   Angry  That ought to tell you something - and Zathura only stayed 3 weeks.)

Good list, Zab. Thanks for the effort of posting all the pics, too.

I have compiled a list of all the films I saw in theatres this year. Most of them do not feature boy actors, though. The ones that do are in bold.

23. Closer (2004)
24. Zero Day (2003)

-Good, but flawed-

25. Crash (2004)

36. Inside Deep Throat (2005)
37. Three Extremes (2004)

39. Night Watcher (2004)

I really wish we lived in the same city joseph.
We could be better than Siskel & Ebert.  Grin

My love for movies with shameless sentimentality and your disdain for them would keep me entertained in our post-film discussions many a night.  Tongue

Although I am aware of all of your bold films, I have only seen one of your top 5, Me and You and Everyone We Know. I guess I would rate it as good but nothing special. I expect to eventually see the other four, it's just a matter of time.

As for your non-bold titles I will be needing to check in at IMDB as all of them are unseen and most are unknown to me. I look forward to the research.  Smiley

MJ,

I empathize. I don't live in one of the world's cultural capitals either, I just travel a lot and make use of every resource available to me.

I just reviewed my list and found that this year's batch were seen in film festivals, on television, DVD, and in theatrical screenings. I saw most of them (about 2/3) in various film festivals I attended.

I long for the day when the internet is commonly used as a distribution device for far flung filmmakers to get their stories out to a wider public.
With any luck at all it'll happen before I'm too old to continue travelling.  Grin

I know you're more of a tv guy, but do feel free to share your list of film favorites as well.

Hosenhaus,

It's really neat to see you take part in this thread.
I have seen most of the films in your accounting.
Zathura just missed my list. I'm also a big fan of Promises as well and am happy that it is now widely available on DVD. It deserves a huge audience.
My experience with The Great Water wasn't as positive. I think I saw an American version, as it had some English narration. This is undoubtedly the version that will get the R1 DVD.
Most of the Asian films you mention I have not seen.
Mr. Kim and Don't Tell Papa are on my CVMC to rent list though so I will catch up to those some day.
