Does anyone remember "Skippy"?

I think it started in the US in 1966. It was an Australian kid's TV show about a boy and his Dad who live on a huge national park and Sonny, the boy, has a pet kangaroo named Skippy. It's the Australian version of Lassie, basically. I liked it back then.

Nope, only heard of the Jackie Cooper movie from the early 1930's.

Not much Australian tv in this part of the world.

I remember it, vaguely. I think i remember the opening theme song. They probably showed reruns on Canadian TV when I was a kid.

That pic posted by hosenhaus is from what was called at the time 'The New Adventures of Skippy', 39 episodes were produced in the early 90s. The 'New' part of the title got dropped when the series was released on DVD.

Simon James, the boy seen in the above pic was the main character, he played the son of Sonny (Andrew Clarke). In the 60s when the original series was made Sonny, then a boy  (played by Gary Pankhurst)was the main character and best friend of Skippy.

One day I'll make some clips from both series and post them so people can get some idea.

The stories were very similiar to the tv series Flipper. Swap a dolphin for a kangaroo.

I've heard of it. Apparently it was all the rage in Australia, inspiring many Skippy-related toys and other products.

Wow! This makes the whole thread worth it. Thanks.
Actually, I've never seen The New Adventures of Skippy but I'm sure it's worth a look.

Thanks for the link Cal, and thanks to Capt'kirk for his great job of capping all the episodes. I know how time consuming that is and I appreciate it.  Smiley
