This is a wonderful film that it was a privilege to view many years ago, and am surprised it is not in our database.  Hopefully enough information can be obtained for this truly remarkable motion picture.

"Už zase skácu pres kaluže"  /  "I'm Jumping Over Puddles Again"   (1970 Czech)

Many boys are in this film, but the lead role is played by Vladimir Dlouhy.  (His little brother Michal was in the early part of the film, as the same character at a younger age).

Review:  About a young boy's passion for horses, his paralysis from polio, and subsequent triumph over his handicap by learning to ride. Village life of the period (just before World War I) is well evoked, and the boy's relationship to his wastrel father, anxious mother, and the somewhat scornful village kids is treated with some feeling. It's a whimsical, rather drowsy film, overlaid with an unfortunate technical tricksiness and an insistent music score. Unexpectedly, it improves enormously with the boy's illness and his feverish hallucinations in hospital. Later, treated with a nicely quirky sense of humour, neither his crippled state nor his determination to overcome it are trivialised. Altogether a bit of an oddity, pleasant and irritating in equal proportions as it avoids the obvious pitfalls and then falls flat where least expected.

Very much appreciated Orion. I've read the original book by Alan Marshall, many years ago and have seen, probably three Australian versions of the story. I think one was a mini series. I've never seen this version though and suspect that it may not have been released here. A pity, it looks good.

Uz Zase Skacu Pres Kaluze (1970) AKA: I'm Jumping Over Puddles Again

This is a really good film!

Vladimir Dlouhy is excellent!  Highly recommended!

Interesting dream/daydream sequences, though they do slow down the flow of the film.
