I thought this was an excellent movie. David Ladd is lovely and the story is very good. *8/10*

I guess this one doesn't really count, because all the actors are over 15, but I'm including it because it features a lot of well known (at least among this community) former boy actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lukas Haas, Noah Fleiss and Matt O'Leary (pictured above).

Although the actors all did a pretty good job and it's nice to see so many talented young actors making a successful transition into adult acting, I have to say that unfortunately the movie itself was pretty lame. If anybody asked me for the definition of "overwritten", I would give the dialogue in this film as an example. Some of the ideas had potential, but the whole thing was just too awkward. *4/10*

I hated this. I'm just going to copy and paste what I've posted with my rating: Interesting topic, but this is beyond low-budget. This is amateur filmmaking. I had read that the production values were pretty low, but didn't expect it to be this bad. Because there is pretty much no talent involved (the acting is terrible), this feels like an "educational" video, a tool designed to teach us an important message. Very noble, but it's not cinema. *3/10*

Although rather predictable (more than halfway through the film, they reveal something as if it was a big twist, but I had figured it out about 3 minutes into the film), there's still a lot to hold one's attention here. I disagree with assertions that the kids are not good actors; they seemed to be doing a pretty decent job to me. The movie is also interestingly filmed, the director making it a point to never show the two boyx in the same frame. This very unusual choice is at times a bit distracting, but does help to create an unsettling atmosphere. *7/10*

Again, copy and paste: I don't understand why this movie is so highly rated. There's something seriously wrong with the pacing of this film. The scenes are too short and rely on music too much. The director can't resist going for self-agrandizing shots (beautiful sunsets, purple clouds, amazing landscapes) that in the context and because of their overuse end up feeling trite and superfluous. The acting and dialogue are average at best, and the story is boring, predictable and clich�-ridden - too much symmetry, too much symbolism, too many important revelations that feel empty and meaningless.

I would have given the film 4/10, but Bobo's cuteness is worth an extra star at least. *5/10*

This was an excellent movie. Much darker than Pelle the Conqueror (by the same director). I think this is a better movie, although Pelle gets extra points for featuring one of the most beautiful boys ever caught onscreen. The performances in both films are amazing, but Zappa is much more tragic and disturbing. Recommended. *8/10*

In spite of the subject matter, I didn't have very high hopes for this one. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the film, in particular the excellent screenplay and the acting. I'm still mulling over some of the implications of the film, and I may post a more elaborate review sometime in the future. All I can say for now is that this is highly recommended to everyone here. It's easily my favourite movie of the month. *9/10*

I've seen The Proud Rebel, The Other, and Around The Bend. I liked the first 2 and had reservations about ATB, though I rated it higher than yourself. My low ratings tend to be higher than yours. 

As I remember it, The Other as a novel was about 5 times more powerful than the movie.

Right now I am working my way through The Tomorrow People series, looking for nuggets.

'A Whole New Thing' is the standout among that lot IMO mainly because of it's brave and generally non judgemental story line and Aaron Webber was pretty good in what is really quite a courageous role for a kid that age.

My favourite boyactor in those movies is easily David Ladd.

I think you were very tough on 'Around the Bend'   

Oh and I agree with your assessment of the Tomorrow People.  It was a fairly pedestrian low budget show that failed to ignite my interest. I'm amazed that it was so popular.

How old is Peter Vaughan-Clarke in the series...

I'm sure the kids I work with usually think of me as 'ancient'.  They believe me when I tell that that when I was a kid we had to hunt for our food with spears and schools hadn't been invented.
