Johnny Sheffield might very well be the luckiest boy who ever lived.

Half a childhood spent in a loincloth, running barefoot, climbing trees, swinging on ropes & vines, riding baby elephants, a chimp as a sidekick and an Olympic swimmer as a swim instructor - best friend - and role model...... and on top of this being a child movie star as a result of all these activities.

Now, 60 to 70 years later..... it's all digitally restored on dvd.

It's nice to see a child actor story without a negative outcome in the end.

I so much agree Nicholas. I always thought that about Johnny too, especially when I was still a boy myself and used to watch Johnny in all those Tarzan movies on television every week. He really was the luckiest boy in the world, I thought. Plus I had an innocent crush on him when I was 12. He was my ideal as a boy.

Yes, the media never tells you about all of the former child actors who's lives have turned out all right, with no drug or alcohol addictions, arrests, violence, mental illnesses, tragedies, suicides, etc. The ones who turn out fine are in the majority. But it's only the small minority of troubled former child actors that get reported in the media because bad news is the only news that sells. That's why many people still believe the myth that almost all former child actors have tragic lives after growing up.
Of course unfortunately that is true in some cases.

Thanks for reminding me about that article, I've got a copy that has been pasted back together. I've posted it to the Biography Forum with a link to it from his BA profile:

Ahh yes, the Russian PP. beautiful, but there is only room for one Russian in my top ten.

I just watched another PP last night. It was an oldie made in 1924 and also had a beautiful boy:

He didn't play PP though, he played Michael.

Is there a way to purchase the Russian version of Peter Pan?  (On dvd)

Cal, thanks for the reminder of this very excellent 1924 version of Peter Pan.  De Lacy must have left this country at a very young age, as he has no acting credits in French film.

He was truly a charming young actor.

Top five are excellent, Zabladowski.

Frederik Christian Johansen and Hans Broich-Wuttke were as charming as a boyactor can be.

Brendon Ryan Barrett didn't have nearly enough films.... he needed a dozen or so more before the adolescence came around.

As for me thre is no ideal boy actor, there is an ideal boy actor in an ideal boy actor movie. Well Wood and Culkin in God Son are ideal enough for me $)
