Okay, fellow boy film buffs, whose been to see it? And `been` is the operative word. I refer, of course, to `Mr Bean`s Holiday` (in France) with Rowan Atkinson playing that ridiculous fellow. It seems as though Rowan tries to be a cross between Charlie Chaplin and Jacques Tati and doesn`t pull it off.
I would never have gone to see this film except that the trailer showed him in scenes with a delightful dark haired boy. The boy features in quite a lot of the film and is its saving grace. That boy actor is Max Baldry. Due to one of several mishaps on Mr Bean`s part this boy`s father misses the train leaving his son on board and a contrite Mr Bean tries to take the sobbing boy under his wing. They share lots of adventures together many of them rather overdone like Rowan`s grimacing.
Do you agree that the scene where Mr Bean mimes to a piece of operatic tragedy and clutches the boy to his chest is not slightly erotic?
I liked the ending on the beach in Cannes where everybody is dancing on the sand to Charles Trenet`s famous song `La Mer` greatly enhanced by Max in his shorts!
Go see if only for newcomer Max Baldry.

Yeah me too,  Max also played a significant character in three episodes of the 'Rome' tv series.

A couple more from the new Bean flick:

Great Caps!!!

This film did have much of it shot right here in Cannes.

Atkinson was so very annoying in the first film, "Bean".... yet he is so good in his tv episodes, particularily the older programs.

Hopefully this one is better than his first cinematic effort of this character..... and undoubtedly Baldry will make up for any feelings of discontent with this motion picture.

Love those pics! I didn't even know about Max Baldry when I added
the 'Rome' series to my rental queue. I'll have to move that series up the list.  Smiley

(I've also gone bananas on adding documentaries about Alexander the Great
to my rental list ever since reading 'Fire From Heaven' and 'The Persian Boy'
by Mary Renault. Ohh, what a movie 'The Persian Boy' would make,
if someone could do it right!)

Also, I have to say that, among other things, Max has a whole lot of belly-button appeal.  8)

Anybody have those caps Cal originally posted from Rome? They're not showing in his post anymore.

I'd kind of like to see them again, considering they apparently caused me to exclaim "oh my god" the first time I saw them.

It's strange because in some of our older posts, even the historic ones, some of the pictures remain.  But in some of the newer posts, they do not appear on the screen.  Just the dreaded "little red X".

Someone probably has the dvd already and might be able to make some caps from the film for a gallery.

Sometimes (as, for example, in this thread) when I read one of my old pasts, and see missing pics, I upload them again as replacements.  Mostly, pics from before the move did not make it.

I've re-uploaded the caps to the new server, so they should be showing up now...
