Orz Boyz (Jiong nan hai) (2008)

Last week I went to movie theater to see this movie "Orz Boyz"(2008, Taiwan).  And I thought this is an excellent movie of Taiwan. The story is very touchful and the two main boy actors act so well in this one.  Smiley
Hope "Orz Boyz" could be released in more international movie festivals in the future.

The movie summary:

The title’s meaning might be familiar to those who have spent time in Japanese or Taiwanese chat rooms—the three letters of “orz” represent a person, “o” being the head, prostrate with awe or defeat. But the two best buddies in this film waste no time in front of a computer screen. They are too busy taunting girls, imagining ghosts and animate statues and playing pranks on schoolmates. For their crimes they are forced to spend the rest of the hot, humid semester repairing library books after school. But rather than fix anything, the more literate Liar No. 1 reads wild stories to the younger Liar No. 2 (as they are christened by their teacher whose unorthodox punishment involves lipstick). The stories inspire the boys to plan a voyage to Orz, a faraway world over the Taiwanese sea that promises endless fun, depicted in several beguiling animation sequences. A scheme to whip up a transporting tornado with ten electric fans ends in a blown fuse. Finally, they settle on a solution: a nearby seaside park’s spiral waterslide is a portal to Orz. The hundredth trip down the slide will trigger a blast into that anti-Neverland where children turn instantly into adults. Over time we learn why the boys want to stop being kids: their respective family situations offer numerous difficulties and challenges. Yang dedicates this bittersweet film “to children who want to rush into adulthood, as well as grownups who wish to be kids again.”

Thanks for bringing this film up Zork.

I have a profile half prepared but was waiting for IMDB to add it (they did so last week).

As far as I know it has played in two US festivals (both on the West coast) I'm hoping it heads east so I get a shot at seeing it.

Thanks for the replies.

As I know, Japan TV production company "NHK" has bought the copyright of "Orz Boyz" and it will be released in Japan(maybe next year).

This is a unique movie of Taiwan, and I think it has a chance to release as DVD with English subtitle. Smiley

I'll keep my eye if there is any new info of "Orz Boyz".

I'm glad  now we have a movie profile:

but some info is wrong.
Liar No.1 IS Kuan-yi Lee, and Liar No.2 IS Chin-Yu Pang.
Moderators please coorect the info.

I know when you search on the web, some English "Orz Boyz" summary will give you the wrong info. I live in Taiwan and speak Chinese, you can trust me. Smiley

And if possible, could you please use the "Movie Poster" on the movie profile?(instead of the movie still)

There are 3 nice movie posters of "Orz Boyz".(I've posted one in this thread)

Thank you so much!

Whew!
I'm tired from doing all of the remodeling of the profile!   Grin

I think we've got everything squared away now Zork.
Let me know if we don't.

If you could find some nice headshots of the liars, we could do profiles for them as well.  Cool

Thanks Zab. You're so nice. Grin
About headshots... I think the 2 movie stills from the official website are nice:

Liar no.1(Kuan-yi Lee born:1995)
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Liar no.2(Chin-Yu Pang born:1998)
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I'm not really sure if their birth years are right...In the news they said Kuan-yi Lee is a 2nd-grade junior high school student(so I supposed he is 13) and Chin-Yu Pang is a 5th-grade elementary school student(so I supposed he is 10) after this summer vacation(2008/07-2008/08).  Huh

I'll do some captures of them in a recent TV show when I get the file. Wink

Thanks for your work in tracking down the headshots Zork.
Each of the boys now has their own profile page.

Let's hope they give us some new roles to add onto their credits!

I did finally get to see this film recently. It is well worth seeing should anyone have the opportunity. It's now my third favorite Taiwanese film.

Zork, should you read this thread again, I would love to know who played #1's son (at the very end of the film). If we could figure out his name, he belongs in our profile.
