OT - DVDs kicked out of my computer

Is it my hardware getting tired or has Netflix and many newer DVD purchases added some coding to prevent playing/copying on computers? I have Pioneer S106 CD/DVD player and Power DVD software version 6 (I think).

Several times I have inserted disks that get rejected and this has happened only in the last year. Older DVDs play fine. Anyone else have trouble like this?

...the ones rejected have plenty of scratches on them...

As far as Netflix is concerned, there is a link to tell about problems, and they replaced the disk quickly for me.

I have yet to have that problem YA.

I play DVDs on my pc using Media Player Classic or VLC Media player.
I can get you links to download those programs if you need them.

I have never had that problem playing a movie (except when they're damaged), and of course there are copy protections that constantly change.  I don't know if they have changed recently, though.  Then again, I don't have many occasions to make backups anymore...

Thanks for the comments. Now I find that all the DVDs will play on my alternate RW drive, which I have neglected for a long time. That drive was glitchy a ways back, if I recall.

Cheesy I KNEW I'd find that Teddy Bear someday! Great to see you.  Smiley

I just got through a harrowing 2 weeks of being internet deprived. I had forgotten what it was like! Hard disk crashed, got a new one, had to order another copy of WinXP (never realized I didn't have a hard copy of the version installed on the crashed disk) several wasted days of amateur fiddling to get it installed, to get that blasted install disk to even recognize I HAD a hard drive! Grrrr.  First priority to get back online and got lucky thanks to backed up files I almost never got around to making.

Anyway, I am just now catching up on more than a full page of posts here.
