So I've decided to give the blog thing another try. This time I'm keeping it simple, posting a maximum of three images from each film I see. No commentary. Just the title.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

It's not going to be of much interest to people here, as the caps are all part of larger galleries I've posted here. But I thought I'd share anyway.

Yes, actually. I wanted focus to be exclusively on images. At first I was going to have it black on black, but then I decided to go for a dark shade of gray.

I remember your blog from years ago, I always wondered what happened to it.

Joseph, beautiful caps

I see you have carefully selected some choice frames which appear to have a good deal of artistic merit, imagewise.

The only quibble I have is that the grey (I'll use the English spelling) on black is almost impossible to see, for my eyes at least.

Thanks, Cal.

I didn't realize people would be so upset about the grey/gray on black. It's not like there's a lot of material to read - other than titles. They seem legible enough to me. In fact, I tried to make them even less conspicuous.

Maybe I'll go back to my original idea of having no text at all. At first I had made the images link to the imdb profiles, which eliminated the need to put titles underneath. But that way you didn't have access to the high-res images.

Hmm. Either way it'll be a compromise. But I'm sort of thinking of it as an art project, almost. So my main concern is aesthetic, rather than user-friendliness.

Well, I tried lightening the shade of grey a bit, but it really kind of ruined the aesthetic I was going for, so I changed it back. I removed the "info" text that was on the right, so now the titles are really the only text there is to read. I also removed the borders around the photos.

I'm not making any more changes. Sorry about your eyes, guys. Smiley

Interestingly, I have no trouble seeing the titles.  And I think it looks great.  Nice selection of photos.  A few that indicate I have more movies to find!  Thanks!

You're welcome.

Yeah, I have no problem reading the titles either. It probably depends on things like which browser you use, your screen resolution/brightness/colour settings and the quality of your monitor.

I think, for me at least, it's more to do with my eyesight, especially late at night, it's probably not worth worrying about.

Anyway, it's an interesting concept. I've always prefered quality over quantity.

I think it probably has more to do with your monitor being properly calibrated while josephk's isn't  Smiley

Or vice versa.

I did quite a few tests and my monitor is very well calibrated. I use it to edit images that are then going to print (for work), so it's calibrated so the colours and shading match as closely as possible what it's going to look like in print.

Maybe that's not the best way to calibrate a monitor for website design. It's like audio mastering - when you're working in the studio with the best possible listening equipment, you also have to test it on a cheap stereo, because what sounds great in a perfect environment might then sound like crap on low-end equipment, which unfortunately is what 90% of people are going to be using to listen to your music.

I'm finding this discussion mildly annoying. I'm very tempted to just revert back to my original idea of having no text at all. People won't be able to identify the movies, but tough luck. (Or maybe I'll just leave it as is and try not to care if people assume it means my monitor's not calibrated properly.)

Well the text color is #1d1e20 which in the great scheme of things isn't far from pure black, if you can see a major difference on your monitor perhaps the brightness is set unusually high.

Of course it your blog but what you suggest about having no text might be a good idea since the text is set so dark it might as well not be there.
