Yeah, I know this is somewhat out of place in this forum. However, I thought that I would share with you one of my personal favorite sports which I have been involved in professionally for several years.

Well, I guess it is somewhat germaine to the subject matter here as there are a buttload of cute and athletic boys in this sport. This video has a couple of the best young jamskaters in the sport. Both of the boys featured in this video are around 13-14 years old and are competing in the 17 and up Elite Men's Division. They are supposed to be skating in the Junior Boys Division but chose to compete in an older division which is also the most competitive division. These two performances are from the WSA 2009 Jamskating Nationals held last weekend in Texas. The first skater is Brandon "Phenom" Perea who skates for Hipnotic Skate Styles and is sponsored by Vanilla Skate Co. He took First Place this year and is now going Pro. The second skater is Levi Keyser who skates for Breaksk8. He took Third Place this year and is also now going Pro. They are two of my favorite young skaters. They both have great moves and great style.

Yup, yup. Even at my age I can still do it like that. Most of the youngsters I know that jamskate are really cute but also very talented and motivated. Unfortunately, most of them are most likely straight, stuck-up, and homophobic. But who knows. I've learned of stranger changes or metamorphisis' happening.   Cheesy

I thought roller skate were something akin to a penny-farthing bicycle, antique. It seems they are making a bit of a comeback, why roller skates instead of roller blades though? They certainly seem very skilled, so I guess it's a matter of preference or something.

Yeah, well, I suppose it's like most other "bravado" sports... still filled with the "normal" variety of people, but less open to people who are "different."

And I believe that you ARE as capable as you say.  Your photos would indicate it's very true!  (How about reposting that backbend... lol).

Actually, traditional roller skates or quads as they are also known have never really been gone. It did take a backseat to rollerblades with the general public for quite a while. However, as far as competitive artistic skating such as figure skating, freestyle skating, dance skating; and aggressive styles of skating like vertical skating (like you see some inliners do in skateparks, pools, half-pipes), speed skating, rexing, jamskating, and roller-derby, it has been alive and well for quite a while. Especially with the growing popularity of jamskating and roller-derby roller skating is making a big comeback and I personally have been working hard over the past couple of years promoting the sport and trying to bring it back to the forefront.

Rollerblades or inlines lately have been on the decline and are starting to take a backseat to roller skates. You can do some jamskating moves or tricks on inlines but most jamskating moves can't be done on inlines for many reasons.

One of my sideline business ventures or incomes is a well-known online skate shop. I do a lot of promoting for the sport and my local skating rinks. Rollerskating is a great sport and recreational activity. It not only is a lot of fun and can keep you in good shape but it is also a great social venue for people of all ages to meet new people, make new friends, and especially for youngsters it is a good way for them to work on their socialization skills.

The local rink that I have been going to for years is owned and operated by an openly GAY man. They have a GAY skating night every Wednesday night called Rainbow Skate which is pretty cool. I have been doing a lot of promoting for that skating session both locally and on MySpace and Twitter. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). It is starting to really grow a lot more and we are getting a lot more people coming to that event. Especially since I live close to West Hollywood and all the gay clubs where I have some DJ friends that are skaters and gay and are helping me now with distributing fliers for the gay skating night at the clubs they work at.  Wink

Luv the pic...   I can't bend forward that far, let along backwards, heh.

Kids still knew how to be kids in those days, rather than TV or Video Game appendages of today's sloth generation.

also tis a pity today's dress code is not as interesting   Smiley

Speaking of roller skates... Anybody know what the deal is with this photo:

As in who the photographer is or where it's from. I see it around all the time and it always struck me as very funny.

No, although the boy she's dragging reminds me of Danny Pintauro.

I don't presently know who the photographer is but as far as I know it was taken in Central Park in New York City. You can still find large numbers of rollerskaters there on the weekends.

Well these boys are really talented. I actually hate to skate. I can't even stand on the crazy things. And when I see boys with this kind of talent on them I'm totally amazed. Now, as for the pic that josephk posted, I don't know anything about it but I agree with Swede. The cutie being dragged looks like Danny Pintauro. I'm sure he's not but he looks like him. Thanks for all the cool pics and the awsome vid.   Cool

Yo. I thought that I would post one of my favorite jamskating performances to give folks a little more exposure to my sport. This video is from America's Best Dance Crew's "Battle for the VMA's" where my bois from Breaksk8 performed a routine from Ne-Yo's "Closer." It took me a few days to learn this routine and get it down. Enjoy!
