"Actor Corey Haim died early Wednesday morning of an apparent drug overdose. He was 38.
Haim, who had long struggled with drugs, was taken to a Burbank hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 3:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Haim's numerous collaborations with fellow teen idol Corey Feldman, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream earned the pair the nickname "The Two Coreys." They starred in the television reality show The Two Coreys, which aired on A&E for two seasons in 2007 and 2008. On the show, Feldman settled into domestic life while Haim continued his struggles. Both appeared in Lost Boys: The Tribe which was released in 2008.
"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face," Feldman said in a statement. "I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."
Haim told The Sun in 2004 that at one point he took 85 Valium a day.
"I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck," he told the paper. "But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day. ... The doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium. I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."
The Canadian-born Haim made his first feature film appearance was in 1984 in Firstborn, but his major break came in 1986 with his starring role in Lucas alongside Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen, and Winona Ryder. Following the film's success, Haim starred in the 1987 television series Roomies."

Corey was definitely one of my favorite child actors. I used to have a major crush on him. Although I have met Corey Feldman a couple of times at the mall long ago I never got to meet Corey Haim. My little brother's best friend knew him and partied with him when they were teenagers. So I knew he partied and got high like so many other kids in the industry but I didn't know that he was that involved and addicted to drugs like Valium. Those Benzodiazapims have been killing a lot of celebrities lately. So freaking sad.
Recently Leif Garrett who I did know and partied with back in the 70's was recently arrested again for buying heroin here in Downtown L.A. like only a block away from my apartment. As far as I know he is still in L.A. County Jail and hasn't made bail yet. This is like the fourth time in the past couple of years he has gotten busted for heroin. The previous busts were from buying heroin from undercover cops. He may be going to prison this time. His booking photo looks like *hit and he was so hot when he was a youngster. I was just looking at some videos on YouTube from when he starred in the movie Skateboard with my old friend Tony Alva. Damn he was cute. That heroin is no joke. It will age you real quick.
What I don't get with Corey Haim is if his doctors knew he was consuming such a large amount of Valium which demonstrates a heavy addiction problem why did they keep prescribing him Valiums in increasingly large amounts and fueling his addiction. Everyone who watched television and watch the reality show The Two Corey's knew that he was a drug addict. His doctors had to know unless they live in a closet. I consider them as much to blame for his death as much as I do Corey himself.
I take Vicodin for pain and Antivan for anxiety which are both popular narcotics. I don't abuse them or ask for them in large or increasing quantities nor do I have any drug arrests or any other signs of abuse or addiction. But my doctors carefully monitor and scrutinize my use of these medications to make sure I'm not misusing them. Shortly after Michael Jackson's death when I went to the doctor they made me take a urine test to make sure I'm not taking any street drugs before they would refill my prescriptions. Why aren't these stars doctors scrutinizing them and their use of medications and especially in light of so many recent celebrity deaths
from prescription drug overdoses. Time for the authorities to start holding celebrity doctors accountable for their actions the same way they do for the rest of us when our doctors overprescribe medications.
