Ah yes...  he was one of my favourites back in the 80s

the first movie I saw him in was "The Believers", not a great film but quite an eye opener for anyone who admires boy actors. I've seen most of his movies. His younger brother, Eli Marienthal, became a favourite as well, and seemed to be as uninhibited as Harley.

I was/am very fond of Harley. I didn't know that Eli Marienthal was his brother! Both are tremendous lookers but, to me, don't resemble one another at all.

a persistent rumor ... IMDb says...

Harley Cross: Attended school at Massillion in Paris, France, where he lived with his family.

Eli Marienthal: lives with his mother in Berkeley, though during the 3rd and 4th grades he spent some time in Paris with his father.

So ... who knows, maybe half-brothers ???

I had the displeasure of knowing Harley and his father Joe.
His father was a crook of the highest degree. Fraud of all types including getting people their SAG cards for big $. He ran his "business" from a Piano store on Ludlow street in the lower east side of NYC. It was nothing more than a "front" for his other activities. Harley was a spoiled brat, but I'm sure deep down was a good kid. I would hate to grow up with a father like that. I do know that his father began dating a blonde flight attendant and had a child with her. I don't remember her name, but I do know that they were pretty strung out by the time they left for Paris. I'm not sure if that is Eli or not, but it would certainly fit the time frame. There was a rumor that when Harley went up for the part of the kid in Terminator 2, that he second guessed James Cameron and then threw a bit of a tantrum. Obviously, he didn't get the part. I have plenty to say on the subject, but I'm trying to be as nice as possible here.

Well , heh, that's a serious tease. Parents exploiting their kids is a pretty common practice in all walks of life. I'd like to hear more but it's a fine like we tread when we discuss other people's faults without hearing both sides. As curious as I am, I'm always questioning if we have the right to discuss other people publicly like we do. I'm not a fan of gossip media because they more often than not tend to blow up a story to exaggerated proportions and put a sensational and often erroneous spin on stuff that is maybe no one's business except the persons directly involved.

However, we could do worse than have a Babylonesque look at the lives of child actors.   Smiley
