Thanks, 'boyactorzrule', for that still of Joseph Mazzello from 'Simon Birch'. There were some great shots of him in that film when he looked his best I thought.
Mazzello is a fine boy actor and up there with the tops like Elijah Wood but Oscars are not awarded for the number of films a boy has appeared in. The Oscar comes for performance and in that regard Jordan Michael wins even over the great Joseph.
'Motorama' was a film whose success depended entirely upon a relatively unknown boy actor. In my opinion, Jordan Michael acted so impressively as ten year old Gus his performance could not be faulted. He adapted to weird comedy and tragedy situations and, for an actor of his age at the time, that took some doing.
Mazzello's part in 'The Cure' was a great performance but he was aided by Brad Renfro whereas Jordan Michael had to carry his film on his own. Joseph Mazzello was also good in 'High Lonesome' but his was not an Oscar rated performance.
I hope this might start some discussion among other BA members.
