La Rafle / The Round Up (2010)

La Rafle depicts the arrest and the sad fate await the 13000 Jews including 4000 children in France during the World War II.  Based on real life characters, the director focus on two families, a Jewish doctor and a French nurse  to paint one of the darkest events that happened in French history.  However, amid terrible loss, there is still hope throughout the movie.

The two boy actors that stand out are Hugo Leverdez who plays Jo and Mathieu and Romain di Concetto who plays Noe. They give good performances and are easily two of the audience's favorite characters.

Over all this is an excellent and moving film.

This is showing at a film festival I usually attend (but will have to miss this year). It looks like I missed out on a good one. I'll work on getting this ready for the database.

A very good movie indeed. These events were filmed with utmost integrity. A modicum of sentimentality could not be avoided, but there is no evidence of exaggeration.

La Ralfe or La Rafle (wonder what that means in French?) - but then who cares with a blond stunner like ... er ... I assume that the boy pictured is Hugo Leverdez who seems to be the best looking boy actor France has produced since Jean-Baptiste Maunier. I think the story might well be rather traumatic considering the subject matter ... kids being herded on trains to Germany. I hope it becomes available on DVD and has English subtitles.
Thanks, zhizhi and Benjamin, for posting the marvellous photos.

It's due to be released on UK DVD and Blu-ray on 30 May.

Oops.  Excuse moi. My mistake. It is Rafle.

Cinefan: Yes, the blond stunner is Hugo Leverdez.
