Nearly a hundred years ago 1,500,000 Armenians were killed in what is sometimes called the 'first holocaust'.
It is not within the scope of this website to elaborate on that. I will even try to avoid the word genocide. Oops, it escaped me all the same, sorry!
The reason for reviewing this film by Henri Verneuil is simply that there are two noticeable boys involved in it.
The first one is Cédric Doucet, in the role of Azad Kazarian aged seven. Thee second one is by Tom Ponsin, playing Azad as a twelve-year old boy.
Both their performances are of a very high quality.
The story is centered around an Armenian family of refugees. In the course of the film a lot is revealed about the atrocities during the Ottoman repression, but let us not dwell on that for too long.
The film may have its gloomy side, yet we can enjoy the boys' good play. Also the sequel to this film, '588 Rue Paradis' is worth seeing.
